Regional & Rural Initiatives

The Green Team

The Foundation was influential in establishing the Green Team to engage AFL House and Geoff Slattery Publishing staff with issues facing our environment and how they impact on them. The aim is to enlist staff in devising and implementing ways to reduce their impact on the environment.

The team was established in June 2007 and meets at AFL House every fortnight. The group has put together a range of initiatives that aim to engage all staff with the issue. A list of ideas is being developed which will be incorporated into a calendar of monthly activities to reduce the AFL’s impact on the environment.

The Australian Conservation Foundation will also conduct three training sessions for all staff to learn how they can become more environmentally responsive both in the home and in the office.

The Green Team initiative will form part of the AFL’s boarder response to the environment and climate change, which will also involve Clubs, fans, key external stakeholders, corporate partners and the broader community.

The AFL along with several clubs have also partnered with Origin Energy to help us be the first sporting league in the world to become carbon neutral. With the implementation of the Origin Energy AFL Green Promotion some fantastic results have been achieved. For more information on this program click here
