AFL Foundation

AFL Foundation

Recognising that the AFL has an important role to play within the community the AFL Foundation was re-established to work in partnership with a range of organisations to address a range of community issues.

The Foundation actively seeks opportunities for AFL players, umpires, coaches, staff and partners to participate in practical and visible ways to meet some of the social and environmental challenges facing the Australian community.

It has decided to focus on five broad areas:

During 2007 the AFL Foundation has demonstrated its continued commitment to refocussing the Foundation’s charter to move beyond conventional philanthropic activities of grant giving, to a more contemporary and holistic concept of Corporate Social Responsibility. Increasingly the Foundation understands its role as one of initiating and promoting opportunities for AFL personnel to become engaged practically and personally in addressing the social challenges of society.

Central to this renewed focus is the personal involvement of AFL personnel in raising the community’s awareness of the underlying causes and dynamics of poverty, homelessness and social exclusion that affect the lives of so many people in our community.

The Foundation believes it has the ability for the AFL to be a leader in innovative social change in some of our society’s most challenging problem areas: racism, sexism, homelessness, domestic violence, violence against women, alcohol and drug abuse, and the social exclusion of people with physical and intellectual disabilities.

The Foundation is a separate body, chaired by Colin Carter. It is managed by a board, which consists of leaders from the business, sporting and community sectors.

These board members are:
