After 22 rounds and 3 thrilling weeks of finals, the footy gods delivered one for the ages. The two teams in a league of their own met head-to-head on AFL’s biggest day, the 2009 Toyota AFL Grand Final. The excitement started early as Centre Square opened the gates and welcomed guests to its new location – Birrarung Marr – at 10:30am. Nervous, pre-game stomachs were treated to premium food and drinks throughout the morning, and footy stars past and present kept the laughs and the game analysis coming until it was time to make the short stroll up the park to the MCG for show time.

Centre Square guests enjoyed some of the best seats in the house for the biggest sporting event on the Australian calendar. After the medals were handed out to the Geelong Cats, the Premiership Cup held aloft, and the steamers and confetti settled on the turf, the celebrations headed back to Centre Square. Guests toasted and partied into the night to Australian rock legends, Mark Seymour, Paul Kelly and Jimmy Barnes. Not only was Centre Square and the new venue the winner on the day, but so of course was the footy itself. We look forward to welcoming you and your guests back next year.

Relive all the fun of footy’s biggest day at Centre Square.
