AFL Research Board

The Australian Football League (AFL) is committed to providing the best playing and training conditions and programs for its players, coaches and staff.

The AFL Commission first appointed the AFL Research Board in 1999, establishing this body to administer the selection of research priorities and oversee the allocation of funding. The first round of funded projects commenced in 2000. The structure and purpose of the Board is outlined in the attachment here.

It has been active in researching all areas related to sports science, sports medicine and game evolution and further investigating issues related to injury prevention, coaching and performance in Australian Football.
