Courage, Initiative and Teamwork. These are the Army's core values and what defines a great sports icon.

To celebrate these qualities, the Army is sponsoring the 2009 AFL Army Award. The award recognises the player, as voted by the public, who best represented these skills in a single section of play during the home and away season.

This year's winner was announced on the 14th of September at the All Australian Awards and was Tom Hawkins of the Geelong Cats. The Army congratulates Tom on his achievement
