If you think Australian Football is a game played by boys and men – think again! Female participation in Australian Football has been on the rise for many years.
In 2009, there were over 80,000 registered female participants playing the game of Australian Football.
Follow this participation pathway for females to pursue your interest in playing the game:
NAB AFL Auskick
NAB AFL Auskick is where the fun begins. Boys and girls aged 5 to 12 years of age participate in a series of activities to learn the basic skills of the game.
AFL Junior: age 8-12
AFL Junior is for girls and boys who have completed a few seasons at NAB AFL Auskick and feel ready to start playing the game.
AFL Junior
Youth Girls: age 13-18
Tailor made for players of all abilities and aspirations, Youth Girls caters for teenage girls aged from 13 to 18.
An ideal progression from either NAB AFL Auskick or AFL Junior, Youth Girls provides an opportunity to play in an all-girl competition within a club environment.
It must be noted, this pathway may vary between states.
Women’s League: age 16+
Women’s League is an open-age competition for women, but the pathway may vary between states.
