AFL SchoolsWelcome to the Schools section of the AFL website. The Australian Football League is committed to provide primary and secondary schools with exciting and engaging curriculum resources that bring our great game into the classroom. This section currently contains a number of curriculum resources including “AFL Our National Game", “AFL Sport Education” and “AFL Senior Secondary”. Each of these resources is themed on Australian Football and caters for students in primary and secondary years across all key learning areas. A brief overview of each resource is provided below to give teachers an insight into the resource and how it maybe incorporated into the schools curriculum framework. All resources are accessible online and many come in CD-ROM format.

In addition to the current resources, the Australian Football League has recently launched two new curriculum resources for primary and secondary schools -  “It’s More Than a Game” and 1 Seven – A National Health and Wellbeing program for primary for Australian children.

In 2008 the AFL invites schools to be a part and celebrate Australian Football 150 years. We have produced a list of over 150 ways of how to celebrate Australian Football in the classroom and national school competitions in all key learning areas. On August 7 over 620 schools participated in Kick Around Australia Day completing some form of Australian Football activities on the day.

In November 2008 we will be releasing a new resource in partnership with the Department of Immigration & Citizenship “AFL - You Can Kick Goals

In 2007 the AFL and the respective state football bodies launched a new initiative entitled AFL School Ambassador (AFLSA). The aim of this program is to establish an alliance between schools, state football bodies and the AFL to develop and promote Australian football in the classroom and on the sporting fields through the appointment of a School Ambassador. It’s More Than a Game

It's More Than a Game

 
The It’s More Than a Game Curriculum Resource (formerly AFL Heritage) contains 27 teaching units of work linked to activities covering each of the eight Key Learning Areas. Each activity includes sub-activities, teacher notes and student worksheets. To complement the activities the resource also contains video clips, history, AFL Club information, uniforms, grounds, player images, club songs, mascots and the rules. You Can Kick Goals

You Can Kick Goals

 
The AFL You Can Kick Goals initiative promotes and teaches about important community and cultural values in Australian society.  This resource consists of 3 distinct teaching and learning manuals and student handbooks written specifically to meet the needs of Australian teachers and students in the middle, upper primary and lower secondary levels. The resource focuses on five broad value themes: fair play, respect yourself & others, teamwork, harmony and leadership. This resource has been developed in partnership between the AFL and the Department of Immigration and Citizenship.

This resource will be available in November 2008.
