AFL Sport Education is an innovative curriculum model exhibiting parallels with community sport that can be used in middle primary to early secondary with great success. Students develop a better understanding and appreciation of the roles that are performed in community football environments. Through a season of sport students can develop into better players and also learn other roles such as umpiring, team management, coaching, leading a team captain, sports journalist or publicity officer, or servicing on the football committee. In 2007 the AFL and the respective state football bodies launched a new initiative entitled AFL School Ambassador (AFLSA). The aim of this program is to establish an alliance between schools, state football bodies and the AFL to develop and promote Australian football in the classroom and on the sporting fields through the appointment of a School Ambassador. The It’s More Than a Game Curriculum Resource (formerly AFL Heritage) contains 27 teaching units of work linked to activities covering each of the eight Key Learning Areas. Each activity includes sub-activities, teacher notes and student worksheets. To complement the activities the resource also contains video clips, history, AFL Club information, uniforms, grounds, player images, club songs, mascots and the rules. The NAB AFL Auskick lesson plans provide primary school teachers and coaches with an array of warm up activities, skill activities and modified games. All activities provided have a description of the activity, set up diagram, list of equipment and key teaching points.   ...more

 
The AFL You Can Kick Goals initiative promotes and teaches about important community and cultural values in Australian society.  This resource consists of 3 distinct teaching and learning manuals and student handbooks written specifically to meet the needs of Australian teachers and students in the middle, upper primary and lower secondary levels. The resource focuses on five broad value themes: fair play, respect yourself & others, teamwork, harmony and leadership. This resource has been developed in partnership between the AFL and the Department of Immigration and Citizenship.

This resource will be available in November 2008.

This resource provides curriculum learning activities designed for early, middle and adolescent years. Activities are provided for the Key Learning Areas of English, Mathematics, Health and Physical Education, LOTE, The Arts, SOSE, Science and Technology. Warm-Up Games, Skill Games, Skill Drills and Team Drills are also provided for out door activities and coaches of school teams.
