East Timor GuernseyTimor-Leste (East Timor) Crocs

Ranking: 15
IC08 Placing: Did not compete

Australian football first came to Timor-Leste in 2007 when several friends who liked to kick the ball around jokingly put together the East Dili Eels.

Later that year two Timorese played in the country's first AFL match between the Australian army and UN police.

Now, six teams play in Dili with mostly Timorese players, including Romaldo Barreto, one of the original two players from the first match in 2007.

East Timor's national team, the Crocs, were formed in 2008. They play in Bali twice a year and have toured Darwin.

Players to Watch

Antonio Sarmento
An AFLTL veteran, Antonio has played over 50 games, started and coached Toll and toured Bali and Darwin with the Crocs who he co-captains. He is elusive on the field and has the ability to turn a match off his own boot.

Romaldu Barreto
Considered the father of Auskick in Timor-Leste, Romaldu has played over 50 games of AFLTL, coaches RAFA, has toured Bali and Darwin and is the co-captain of the Crocs. He was also the AFLTL player of the year in 2007 and 2008. Although 2011 sees “Romaldo” overweight and under pressure to recapture some of his past form, he is a determined man who will more than likely answer his critics

Joao Carvellho
Joao is an exciting midfielder who can kick goals. He is known for being able to perform in the big games and was player of the competition in Bali in September 2010.
