Message from the French Ambassador

Michel FilholI want to congratulate the French Coqs for participating in the 2011 International AFL cup and to wish them well in the tournament.

Australian Football was played in France for the first time during the First World War, but it’s not really before 2004 that the sport developed in Paris, thanks to a handful of Australian expats.

Since then, seven clubs have been created in the country and now French football has a national championship and a cup.

Since 2004, the national team has played every European Cup and has participated in the European Championship. The team has been engaged in the International Cup for more than a year. Our young French Coqs are highly invested in this adventure and playing at IC11 is a challenge the team is proud to take on. I hope the French community in Australia will, like me, follow their deeds on the field starting in Sydney on the 13th of August.

Michel Filhol
Ambassador of France

Players to Watch

Grégoire Patacq
He discovered the game playing with South Australian umpires in 2008. Back in France, Grégoire started playing with the Toulouse Hawks. Now vice-captain of the French team, he is one of the best players in the team.

Wilfried Houvion
He is one of the youngest players and represented France in the European Legion team against AIS/AFL last Anzac Day.
