BACKS
Darren Milburn (Geelong)
– Continued his ultra-consistent season with
another fine display out of the back half against the Kangaroos. Won 28
disposals and collected 11 contested possessions.
Kris
Massie (Adelaide)
– Given the task of minding Bulldogs skipper Brad
Johnson, Massie performed the role admirably, keeping Johnson to just one goal.
Also showed great courage to bounce back onto his feet after a heavy hit from
Luke Darcy.
Tom
Harley (Geelong) – The Geelong skipper restricted
dangerous Kangaroos forward Corey Jones
to just five touches and one goal. An excellent defensive performance.
HALF-BACKS
Corey Enright (Geelong) – Given the task of running
with one of this year's Brownlow Medal favourites, Brent Harvey, Enright took
the honours, collecting 29 disposals and five tackles. Harvey had 19 touches.
Matthew
Egan (Geelong) – One
of the unsung heroes of Geelong's
stellar season, Egan again gave his side great structure down back. Spent time
on David Hale and was also able to contain Drew Petrie somewhat.
Adam
Hunter (West Coast) – One of his side's best
against Richmond,
Hunter played his usual role, switching between defence and attack. When pushed
forward, scored three goals and also took an excellent pack mark.
CENTRES
Adam Goodes (Sydney) – Sydney's best player in its
draw against the Brisbane Lions, Goodes continued his fine second half of the
season with 28 disposals – including a game-high 11 contested possessions – and
seven clearances.
Jimmy
Bartel (Geelong)
– Continued his marvellous season with a
best-on-ground 36-disposal performance against the Kangaroos, including 13
contested possessions. Also laid six tackles and chipped in with a goal.
Scott
Camporeale (Essendon) – The veteran midfielder
returned to the side for just his sixth match of the season, but he played a
blinder against his former side, notching up 35 disposals – including 11
touches in the third term. Also landed 10 inside-50s.
HALF-FORWARDS
Gary Ablett (Geelong) – Like his teammate Bartel, continued his blistering season despite
being tagged by Roo Brady Rawlings. Played in the midfield and pushed forward,
finishing with 31 disposals, six inside-50s and two goals.
Jonathan Brown (Brisbane Lions) – Continued his incredible second half of the season with another
heroic performance, booting four majors against Sydney – including three in the
final term and the match-drawing goal just moments before the final siren.
Steve
Johnson (Geelong) – Produced
yet another outstanding display, booting four goals and having four assists in Geelong's 27-point win
over the Roos. Took 10 marks and sent the ball inside 50 five times.
FORWARDS
Scott Welsh (Adelaide) – Played a crucial role in Adelaide's
victory over the Western Bulldogs, booting a game-high four goals, as well as
displaying some fine defensive work inside the forward 50, which earned the
plaudits from his coach Neil Craig.
Fraser
Gehrig (St Kilda) – Played his finest match of the
season, booting a round-high eight goals against Fremantle at Telstra Dome to
play a pivotal role in St Kilda's win. The eighth time he has bagged eight
goals or more in his career.
Quinten
Lynch (West Coast) – Next in line for the most
goals of the round with seven – his second-best career haul. Also took 10 marks
and finished with 18 disposals against Richmond.
FOLLOWERS
Dean Cox (West Coast) – Continued his fine second
half of the season with a round-high 29 hit-outs against Richmond at Subiaco Oval. Cox's contribution
was evident in West Coast's overall hit-out tally – 40 to 13.
Kane
Cornes (Port Adelaide) – Produced one of the best individual performances of the season,
winning a round-high 38 disposals and kicking three goals. Also restricted
Hawthorn's Sam Mitchell to 19 touches.
Daniel
Kerr (West Coast) – Instrumental in West Coast's
victory over Richmond,
Kerr amassed 31 disposals, including 20 touches in the first half. Excellent
around the stoppages, winning a game-high nine clearances.
INTERCHANGE
Matthew Lloyd (Essendon) – Crucial in Essendon's
come-from-behind win, booting six goals, including a back-heel gem that has
since been lauded as one of the goals of the season. Took eight contested marks
from his 11 grabs.
Joel
Corey (Geelong) – Continued his incredibly consistent season with 34 disposals
against the Kangaroos. The competition's third highest ball-getter, he also
impressed with his clearance and tackling work and kicked a goal.
Cameron
Ling (Geelong) – Played a massive role on Kangaroos skipper Adam Simpson, holding
him to just 10 touches after he racked up 41 disposals against the Cats earlier
in the year. Finished with 16 disposals for the day.
Jason
Laycock (Essendon) – Given greater responsibility
after Essendon dropped ruck partner David Hille, Laycock was one of his side's
best with 20 disposals – including 13 contested possessions – and 17 hit-outs
against Carlton.
