Judd out for Blues, but Lions trio return

5:25 PM Fri 27 June, 2008

CHRIS Judd has been ruled out of the Carlton team to play Richmond at the MCG on Saturday.

The club confirmed their skipper will not play in the round-14 match clash against the Tigers due to concussion sustained in a sickening collision with Matthew Lloyd in Sunday's loss to the Bombers.

Youngster Joe Anderson will replace Judd in the selected side, while former Adelaide first-round draft selection Darren Pfeiffer has been added to the emergencies list.

"The Carlton doctor has monitored Chris's progress this week and, while he has continued to improve, he has not recovered sufficiently to play in tomorrow's game," said Carlton coach Brett Ratten in a statement on the carltonfc.com.au.

Melbourne has created the biggest selection storm of round 14, axing ruckman Jeff White from its team to face Brisbane at the MCG on Sunday.

The former All-Australian ruckman and 250-game veteran joins second-year player James Frawley in the 'omitted' column, while James McDonald has failed to recover from a groin injury.

Former Sandringham ruckman, 21-year-old Stefan Martin, comes in for his first game at AFL level, while Shane Valenti and Simon Buckley have also been recalled.

The Brisbane Lions have brought back the big guns, naming Daniel Bradshaw, Travis Johnstone and Justin Sherman to face the Demons.

Lachlan Henderson, James Polkinghorne and Cheynee Stiller are the unlucky players to make way for the well-credentialled trio.

Fremantle has made three changes to the team that lost to St Kilda last weekend, dropping Jeff Farmer and Ryan Murphy and leaving out Michael Johnson due to an ankle injury ahead of its match with Essendon at Subiaco on Sunday.

Into the side comes Steven Dodd, Scott Thornton and talented youngster Clayton Hinkley.

The Bombers have merely tinkered with the team that knocked the Blues off at the MCG last Sunday, bringing in speedy linkman Ricky Dyson for the injured Henry Slattery.

Veterans Mal Michael and Damien Peverill will have to be content with being named on the emergencies list. They'll be joined by Jarrod Atkinson.
