COLLINGWOOD pair Travis Cloke and Alan Didak, as well as
Fremantle defender Steven Dodd, are round 12 nominations for the 2007 AFL Army
Award.
The AFL Army Award recognises the extra efforts and one-percent
acts of individuals that help the team to victory.
Cloke earned a nomination for his relentless play to spoil a
kick-in and then apply a heavy tackle against the Sydney Swans at Telstra
Stadium on Saturday night.
He displayed outstanding perseverance by intercepting the kick-in,
forcing the ball to the ground, and backing it up with an exceptional, ball-winning
tackle on Swan Paul Bevan to receive the free kick.
The Pies’ second nominee, Didak, came under the eye of AFL
Army Award with his
desperate back-to-back smothers. He exerted extra effort and
applied the smothers against Swans playmaker Ryan O’Keefe. Didak first spoiled
a kick by O’Keefe and then backed it up with another desperate smother while being
tackled to the ground.
Fremantle’s Dodd’s was nominated for his outstanding
perseverance to chase down and tackle Bulldogs’ Brad Johnson.
Exemplifying everything the award aims to recognise, Dodd
chased Johnson down the ground refusing to give up until reaching him and
tackling him with one-arm to make him lose possession.

The AFL Army Award is a new award for the 2007 season that
recognises match day acts which demonstrate courage, initiative and teamwork.
The award aims to recognise and reward the one-percent style
acts such as game breaking smothers, tackles and shepherds. Following each
round, the three most influential acts are posted on afl.com.au and
fans can log on and vote to determine the best act for the round just played.
At the end of the home and away season, the AFL All-Australian
selection committee will shortlist the 22 weekly winning acts to six
nominations which will then be voted on by the public via afl.com.au.
The All-Australian selection committee will then endorse the winner.
The 2007 AFL Army Award winner will receive a $10,000 Army
Experience. The award will be officially presented at the 2007 Coca-Cola All-Australian
presentation dinner.
