BULLDOGS NSW Scholarship Program

The aim of the Bulldogs NSW Scholarship Program is to implement a development program for young, emerging footballers from New South Wales, with a distinct focus on continuous individual improvement and fast-tracking development. The players can be signed as 16 year olds and once they reach draftable age the Bulldogs have first access to them.

Training commences in October each year, ceases at Christmas, and then recommences in January until the end of August.

The areas that are covered during the program are:

  • Football skill development
  • Core stability program
  • Running technique program
  • Physical conditioning program
  • Establish a knowledge of correct stretching and warm up techniques for football
  • Injury treatment and rehabilitation
  • Increase knowledge of team play and tactics
  • Increase knowledge of positional play
  • To develop decision making and game sense
  • Introduction to strength training

Players experience face to face contact with the club with visits to the Whitten Oval in January, April and July, and the club's development staff visit the players during the season.

They are instructed to keep in contact the club via weekly emails to ensure training objectives are being reached and that distant learning is being achieved. Vision of their games is regularly made available to the club to monitor their progress on match day.
