Adelaide’s Patrick Dangerfield [FWD/MID, $446,600] had shown glimpses of what he is capable of prior to the season.

Now he’s learning to play with consistency, and as a result is racking up the high numbers.

Against the Blues, his season high score of 142 included 35 possessions, two goals and six tackles.

Dangerfield’s doing his best work through the midfield, but his dual position eligibility adds another element to his game.

Those who had the foresight to pounce when he was just $349,800 at the start of the year, deserve a big Pat on the back.

DT hall of fame

By Dr Dream Team 8:44 AM Mon 21 May, 2012

KEVIN Sheedy caused us some concern on Thursday night when the Greater Western Sydney coach rested a number of young Giants, but a majority of Dream Team coaches survived to post very healthy scores in round eight.

It was mostly due to killer performances from Collingwood on Friday night, with Steele Sidebottom (139 points), Scott Pendlebury (133 points), Heath Shaw (115) and Dayne Beams (100) leading the way.

Champion Dream Teamer Dane Swan was also headed for a big score with 95 points before he strained his hamstring early in the last quarter. For those of us (me included) who had Swan as captain it was a big blow.

Giant calls

By Dr Dream Team 1:22 PM Thu 17 May, 2012

THERE'S a big, big sound from the world of Toyota AFL Dream Team, and it's the sound of the mighty Giants.

Yes, Greater Western Sydney's theme song might be the catchiest tune since Hanson mmm-bopped their way to the top. But, in the land of fantasy footy, it's not time to learn the words but time to come to grips with which Giants are worth keeping and which ones we need to start moving on.

It is a situation we face with a number of our rookie-priced players. For instance, this week Tiger Brandon Ellis is the most traded out player in the competition, with most coaches swapping him for Fremantle's Lee Spurr.

THE LIFE of Brian has undergone a series of weird and wonderful events.

Of course, we are talking about Western Bulldogs defender Brian Lake [DEF, $363,700].

Many jumped on Lake at the start of the year, hoping he could rediscover his  form after a less than satisfactory 2011 season.

He started in a disappointing manner, but the past two weeks he's looked like the Lake of old with scores of 101 and 109.

With a break-even score of just 27 and a strong likelihood he will rise steeply in price, the 24 per cent of teams that have him are sitting pretty.

Extra hot Dog

By Dr Dream Team 9:25 AM Tue 15 May, 2012

AFTER a month of hurt in the land of Toyota AFL Dream Team, things finally clicked in round seven.

Our best players came up with big scores, and most of our rookies came through with the scores we need them to produce on a weekly basis. Emphasising the strength of the round, more than 250 Dream Team coaches scored 2400 or above this week.

I was one coach who cashed in on a good week, scoring 2267 points and moving slightly up the rankings. Most pleasingly it wasn't just my midfield - which contains five premiums - leading me to the score.

EVERYTHING'S going to be Enright when you have Corey.

Geelong's star backman [DEF, $378,600] has been disastrous in Dream Team this year, averaging just 71 and notching low scores of 38 and 56.

He has slumped $76,000 in value since the start of the season.

But a score of 106 on the weekend against Melbourne showed how valuable he can be as a lynch pin in defence and is a sign he has turned things around.

For the 19,014 coaches who have remained patient, it's time to sit back and admire one of the champions of the game.

DT deity

By Dr Dream Team 12:01 PM Mon 07 May, 2012

IT IS hard to talk about anybody other than Brent Stanton this week after the Bomber's phenomenal 193-point total against the Brisbane Lions on Saturday.

Stanton's score was the best of all time - "of all time!" as Kanye West might say - and bettered the Dream Team record set by Brian Lake, who scored 192 points in a game in 2010.

The durable Essendon midfielder shot to the top of the rankings in the competition, becoming the first player of the season to surpass the 800-point barrier and taking his average to 134.5 points a game.

Gazza in limbo

By Paul Daffey 10:49 AM Wed 02 May, 2012

GOLD Coast captain Gary Ablett is set to miss the next two or three matches with the knee injury he suffered in the QClash against the Brisbane Lions.

Assistant coach Dean Solomon confirmed on Wednesday morning that Ablett's hopes of returning this week to face Fremantle had been dashed.

"Unfortunately the injury hasn't responded as quickly as we thought it would," Solomon told SEN radio.

He also said that Fremantle coach Ross Lyon was wrong when he said that the Suns lacked respect for the ninth-placed club.

"We're 0-5. I don't think we have the right to disrespect any club. We have the utmost respect for every club we play against at the moment.

Dream Team Market Watch: Round five

Keep

It's time to step right up and purchase front row tickets to the Stevie J show.

That was the cheeky sledge from Geelong's Steve Johnson (FWD, $431,200) to Gold Coast's Campbell Brown when the Cat booted seven goals in a clinic against the Suns in round 10, 2011.

But this year, the star of show has been more of a support act, with Johnson dropping almost $100,000 in price from the start of the season and averaging just 80 points as a premium forward.
