The SCG was officially opened in its current form in 1886, but sport has been played in its vicinity for many more years than that. It is currently undergoing another revamp, which began in August 2007.

Sydney Swans first played on the ground in 1982, when 15,764 spectators saw them defeat Melbourne by 29 points.

The SCG has witnessed some fine moments in Australian Football history, and has a record crowd for the sport of 46,168, who came to see the Swans play Geelong in August 1997.

Field manual

ANZ Stadium has seen some of Australia's most memorable sporting moments, not least during its original incarnation as the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games main stadium. It was, at the time, the biggest stadium the Games had ever seen.

After Sydney 2000, the venue was reconfigured for football, with Australian Football first played there in May 2002, when Sydney Swans took on Essendon.

ANZ Stadium holds the record for the biggest Australian Football crowd outside of Victoria. That was set in August 2003, when Sydney played Collingwood in front of 72,393.

Getting there

Train

Olympic Park station is directly underneath ANZ Stadium and is well served by trains from all over the Sydney metro area.

Bus

Several routes service the Olympic Park area. Visit Sydney Buses for more detailed information.
