Christmas Wishes

All of us involved with the AIS/AFL Academy wish you an enjoyable Christmas period in the company of your friends and family.

But, to our athletes, be careful of the Christmas ‘Pud as we will have the skinfold calipers out at the January camp!!!!!!

Best wishes from Terry and all within the Academy

Camp 3 – Venue Change

Unfortunately a range of issues have forced a quick change of accommodation for our upcoming camp in Januray. We are returning to the Geelong Conference Centre in Geelong.

During the camp we will still train in Melbourne on two occassions:

Saturday 15 January from 9.30am at the Lexus Centre with the Collingwood FC and on
Monday 17 January from 11.00am at Glenferrie Oval with the Hawthorn FC.

This camp will conclude after lunch on the Monday, at the Hawthorn Football Club in Linda Cresent Hawthorn and Victorian parents can pick-up their sons at 1.00pm.

Further camp details are included later in this Newsletter.

Camp 2 – AIS Canberra

Thanks to all our staff and AIS presenters for their valuable contribution to the success of this latest camp.

I am sure that all our athletes enjoyed their stay and were impressed with the world class facilities we have at the AIS. The wealth of knowledge and information that is available to our program will surely put our athletes in good stead for their upcoming 2005 football seasons.

Food Diaries

Athletes are reminded that they are to have completed their food diaries, and the cooking assignment, and these should now have been mailed to Michelle, with the $1.00 stamp.

Training Programs

Our program 2 training plan seems to be fitting in well with your club training schedules.

If your club provides you with a program to follow over the Christmas break then only use your Academy program when some component is not covered by your club.

I have e-mailed out Reports 10 - 13 for this Christmas period, if you did not receive these please contact me ASAP so as you have them when you go on holidays.

National AFL Draft

The AFL National Draft still remains a key indicator of the relative success of the development programs providing quality talent to the AFL. The AIS/AFL Academy, along with the excellent state and territory programs throughout the country, is now an integral component of the Nationals AFL Talented Player Pathway. The success of these programs is reflected in the high selections awarded to Academy athletes.

The first 5 selections were of Academy athletes with Brett Deledio from Victoria being the No 1 choice.

Seven clubs used their number one selection to take an Academy athlete
Club Athlete
Brisbane Cameron Wood (7th intake)
Essendon Angus Monfries (7th intake)
Fremantle Benet Copping (6th intake)
Hawthorn Jarryd Roughead (7th intake)
Richmond Brett Deledio (7th intake)
St Kilda Andrew McQualter (6th intake)
Western ‘Dogs Ryan Griffen (6th intake)

AFL Club Induction Program

30 scholarship holders

The ‘AFL Club Induction’ program within the AIS/AFL Academy is an excellent opportunity for our athletes to gain a first hand insight into the training program of an AFL footballer.

The Academy appreciates the support of all AFL clubs with this program and expects that this appreciation be reflected in the professional manner in which the athlete conducts himself throughout the four-day program.

Athletes, you will find your diary for this program included with this Newsletter mailed to your home address

Your AFL club contact person will arrange three “interviews” for you and your Academy teammate.

In these interviews be prepared with questions you would like to ask, listen to what you are being told and look to make notes in your diary as soon as practicable after the interview. The diary also provides for you to record the sessions that you undertake and reflect on what you have done at the end of each day. I would encourage those of you who want to record more than is possible in this diary to do so and collect handouts and programs along the way and put them into your larger Academy folder.
