The moment: In a match being widely branded the worst of the season to date, it was St Kilda’s Sam Fisher who proved the pundits wrong. With three minutes left and the Saints trailing by three, Adam Schneider roved a tap, shot out a handpass to Fisher and kicked a snap that seemed to bend forever, bringing 43,000 to their feet and sealing the unlikeliest of wins.

The moment: With North Melbourne well on top, captain Brent Harvey marked 50 metres from goal. Too far out to score and with Clint Bartram standing his mark, Harvey sensed an opportunity. He strolled towards Bartram, weaved left, then right, broke the tackle of the Demon tagger and kicked truly to put the Kangaroos well on their way towards notching back-to-back wins.

The moment: Port fans would have wondered what was going through Josh Carr’s mind as he spun out of a tackle in his first Showdown in five years. Surrounded by teammates, Carr mystifyingly handballed into open space, where three Crows pounced on the ball. Brett Burton picked it up and slid an easy pass to Jason Porplyzia, who kicked truly from 25m. It was a rookie error from a Power veteran.

The moment: Carr came close to being pinged for the Power in round five, but Henry Slattery didn’t get away with it late in the third term on Saturday. Bomber fans were up in arms when the defender stepped across his own goal line, only to be judged to have deliberately rushed a behind. Umpire Scott McLaren made perhaps the year's most controversial umpiring decision to date, gifting Lance Franklin what could have been a crucial goal.

The moment: The Lions didn't want Daniel Bradshaw, and Saturday night was all about the new Swan throwing egg on the face of his former club. His sixth and best goal followed the three-quarter time siren. Set on a tight angle after taking a fine juggling mark, Bradshaw unleashed a 60m howitzer which never looked like missing.

The moment: The game was dusted by half time but you wouldn’t have known it from James Podsiadly’s work early in the third term. Richmond was rebounding from defence and Luke McGuane had all the time in the world. As McGuane cruised across half-back, Podsiadly sprinted from 30 metres away to hurl him to the ground and win a free kick for holding the ball. One of Pods' five goals for the day followed to put the Cats up by 72.

The moment: Dane Swan can do it all. After wrapping up Brock McLean in a ferocious tackle and winning a holding-the-ball decision in his favour, the Collingwood midfielder sporting a Prisoner-style hairdo bolted away from the congestion. From well inside the centre square he bombed from 65m and watched the ball bounce through for a remarkable goal.

The moment: Rhys Palmer made his AFL return after a knee reconstruction in Sunday's derby. Starting on the bench, Palmer came on for the centre bounce at the six-minute mark of the first quarter. As he looked to gather the footy he was collected by Andrew Embley and knocked senseless. He came back despite a sore head, but it was a rude reminder that AFL footy can be tougher than the WAFL.
