Adelaide: Nathan van Berlo
"We're really looking forward to the year ahead. Last year was a disappointment for us as a footy club. [I'm excited by] what the playing group has been able to do over the pre-season so far. We've got a lot of young guys … there who are really energised and enthusiastic about the opportunities that are there for them now."

Brisbane Lions: Jonathan Brown
"There's not much we can do about outside perceptions. Those things didn't help us last year when everyone thought we'd finish in the top four, so hopefully everyone's wrong again this year.

"We know we've had a good pre-season, we seem to have our injuries under control, touch-wood. There's a real solidarity about the group after what happened last year. We're very keen to make amends."

Carlton: Chris Judd
"The group's healthy and working really hard and hopefully we can make some inroads this year. I think there's no doubt that the group is improving and maturing.

"Successful teams aren't built overnight, but I'm confident we're headed in the right direction."

Collingwood: Nick Maxwell
"I haven't had to say a hell of a lot and Mick hasn't had to [either] because the drive has been there from the guys. The way they came back for pre-season has been something that's been really impressive.

"[We] just have to improve. I'm not sure what sort of number you put on it because everyone is after you and has put a lot more time into watching you play. We've got to find other ways to keep doing what we've been doing in a better way or find other ways to be better again. There a couple of things we're obviously going to address during the year."

Essendon: Jobe Watson
"The personnel for us is different and when you bring in different personnel you get different ideas and philosophies, and the players have understood there needed to be a change in the way we were playing.

"Our results didn't demonstrate a team that was playing competitive football last year, and now the coaches have brought in philosophies that have been proven in successful teams and the players have really embraced that.

"The feeling around the club is that the ideas we've been given and the teaching we're getting is going to be beneficial."

Fremantle: Matthew Pavlich
"We're optimistic our game plan has been enhanced, we're optimistic that there's a group of players rock hard, ready for round one.

"We're just going to have to hold the fort because there's been a couple of players who have missed chunks of the pre-season, which isn't ideal, but we're confident we can hold the game plan up in the meantime."

Geelong: Cameron Ling
"The more our young guys can stand up - and Chris Scott has said he'll give them an opportunity if they deserve it - the better we'll be. It will put pressure on our whole group and the older guys will have to [survive] to stay in the team. 'Scotty' has provided us with a really healthy and positive environment during the pre-season, so let's wait and see how we go when the games start."

Gold Coast: Gary Ablett
"With a lot of young kids, the challenge is to play consistent footy but I think we're going to do a lot better than people think. I think we'll win some games that people don't expect us to but at the same time we might drop some games that people think we probably should win.

"There's a lot of talented kids but talent doesn't win you games. We've got to make sure we're playing together as a team and that's going to be a challenge."

Hawthorn: Luke Hodge
"As far as numbers to pick from this is the best shape we've been in for a number of years. Our fitness has picked up, we've really worked hard over the pre-season on the way we move the ball and the way we defend as well.

"We've prepared ourselves as well as we could have this year. The majority of the guys have had a great pre-season."

Melbourne: Brad Green
"You always have expectations going into any season and given where we are as a club, and where we've been over the last few years, there's going to be a high demand that we improve and get better.

"We go out every week to win games of footy and I'd hope that starts with Sydney in round one."

North Melbourne: Brent Harvey
"Our draftees - players like Shaun Atley and Cam Richardson - have been really impressive during the pre-season. They're going to make our team stronger and help us push for a place in the top eight. There's a strong belief at the club that we can play in the finals."

Port Adelaide: Domenic Cassisi
"The last seven weeks of last year we were five and two, so we made some good inroads, and I’m confident that we'll win two or three games more than we did last year, which will get us in the finals."

Richmond: Chris Newman
"Last year we had a patch in the middle where we won a few games, but throughout the season we dropped off in quarters and lost because of it. We need to address that."

St Kilda: Nick Riewoldt
"We're looking forward to the season starting. We've got a great rivalry with Geelong. Friday night on the big stage, we're hoping for 80,000 there, and for our 40,000 members to get along."

Sydney Swans: Adam Goodes
"I think you can look at pre-season form in so many different ways, but we're really happy with the way we've been able to implement our game plan and play some blokes in different positions.

"Those kids who had breakout seasons last year have already shown how much they've improved again for us. As leaders we need to continually improve and drive the group and that's something I'm looking forward to this year."

West Coast: Darren Glass
"There's pressure on every club and we're no different. We've just got to improve. If we make the finals that would be great, but we've got a great bunch and young players and we just need them to keep getting better."

Western Bulldogs: Matthew Boyd
"We think our preparation has been really good and we think we've prepared as well as we could have this pre-season.

"We think we've improved in the off-season and that's really what we're all about; we're about getting that constant improvement and building that platform for sustained success, and that's what we're doing at the moment."
