NICK Riewoldt is an acknowledged champion forward of the game who debuted in 2001.

Stephen Milne, also a 2001 debutant, is an oft-derided target of supporter malice who has missed presentable chances to win the Saints at least one premiership.

Which one has kicked more goals in his career?

Amazingly enough, it's Milne who leads the head-to-head race  between these two 10-year veterans.

While he does have a slightly lower goal average than Riewoldt, the pint-sized forward has kicked 480 goals from his 231 matches compared to Riewoldt's 463 goals from 214.

It's a remarkable statistic, and while players such as Riewoldt, Brendon Goddard and Leigh Montagna were slow starters this season, Milne simply picked up where he left off in 2010, and indeed, almost every season of his career.

He kicked a more than useful 20 goals in the Saints' first six games this year, a period which included just one win, and as his teammates have lifted late in the season, Milne has become the number one headache for opposition defences.

An eight-goal bag against the hapless Crows in round 18 was his best ever haul in a game and he put another four past Fremantle in Friday night's crucial clash.

Milne now sits fifth on the AFL goalkicking table in a season where big bags of goals have been hard to come by.

His Saints have won six on the trot and will almost certainly be playing a home final at the start of September, from where you feel their finals experience will make them a major handful for any club not at the top of its game.

It's this kind of form that made a place in Greatest Team of All mandatory for Milne, and Nick Dal Santo can count himself unlucky not to be joining his teammate in our side.

Out of the team goes Mark LeCras from West Coast, a victim purely of the positional game of checkers that comes with picking the best team in the country.

The brilliant Eagle has continued to deliver over the past few weeks but Milne is the stronger candidate for that forward-pocket slot.

While the temptation to include 22 Geelong players after a fortnightly aggregate winning margin of 336 points was strong, it's important to maintain a sense of balance.

In this season of numerous thrashings, it will only be players who deliver week after week like Stephen Milne who will be able to stake a claim in the Greatest Team of All.
