AUSTRALIAN Football Hall of Fame member Bob Hank has died, aged 88.

The dual Magarey medallist played 244 games for West Torrens in the SANFL between 1944-58 and represented South Australia 29 times, including seven games as captain.

Hank, who was inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame in 1999, captained West Torrens for nine years and won two SANFL premierships.

SANFL executive commissioner Leigh Whicker described Hank as a "true friend of the game and of the community".

"[It's] a very sad day for football and sport in particular," he said.

"Bob was, in the sporting sense a true champion, but in the community sense he was a highly respected gentleman."

A memorial service would be held at AAMI Stadium next Thursday at 2pm.
