GOLD COAST skipper and superstar Gary Ablett faced a tough choice in this week's edition of Personal Best on AFL.com.au.

Head or heart? Is blood thicker than water?

Ablett's quest this week was to select the best players over the last 25 years to have appeared for more than one club.

His choice for the top two came down to Wayne Carey, who finished his career with Adelaide after achieving greatness with North Melbourne, and his father, Gary sr, who played six games for Hawthorn before his brilliant career with Geelong.

Of Carey, Ablett said: "The thing about him is that he was such a great leader. I thought he played some great football at Adelaide as well but it was at the end of his career."

As for his father, Ablett described him simply as a 'freak', who he said should have collected more than one Geelong best and fairest and at least one Brownlow Medal.

"He was born with a freakish talent and could do things that no other player could do."

Jason Akermanis, Paul Roos, Wayne Carey, Tony Lockett and Nathan Buckley are among the other superstars to make Ablett's top 10, but No.1 came down to a choice between Ablett and Carey.
