JONATHAN Brown admits he was "lucky" to escape relatively unscathed after being hit by a car on a Tuesday morning.

The Lions' skipper was riding with a group of about 20 cyclists on the Gold Coast when the accident occurred in the Currumbin Valley.

The 30-year-old received 10 stitches to an elbow, but apart from a few "little dings here and there", was fine.

He expects to start pre-season training with the rest of the team on November 5.

Speaking to lions.com.au, the captain said he did not see the accident coming.

"I came through the roundabout and unfortunately the car didn't see me and just collected me on the way through," Brown said.

"I'm sure she (driver) didn't mean it, I know she wouldn't have meant it, but I just got hit in the side and my elbow smashed the windscreen.

"Fortunately enough I landed on all fours and got up straight away and didn't lose consciousness. I'm pretty good, I just feel like I've played a game of footy."

Brown had scans on his neck, head and hip regions.

He said he counted himself lucky to escape with minor injuries.

The courageous forward will miss a couple of days training but is certain of commencing with the rest of the Lions in less than two weeks.

"Ten stitches in the elbow is the biggest injury I copped [from the accident] so I've done pretty well out of it I reckon," he said.

"I'll rest up, just enjoy the last fortnight of holidays and back into it on fifth of November."

The accident continues a horror run of bad luck for Brown, who has suffered three horrific facial fractures in the past 20 months.

In round one, 2011, Brown copped an accidental knee from Fremantle defender Luke McPharlin that resulted in major surgery for a broken jaw and cheekbone.

He suffered the same fate in round 17 that year when colliding with Geelong's Harry Taylor and then teammate Mitch Clark in a marking contest.

To finish the trifecta of facial injuries, teammate Matt Maguire accidentally kneed his captain while attempting to spoil during pre-season training in February.

He sustained a fractured left cheekbone.
