CARLTON
Carlton's top echelon of players all averaged above 90 fantasy points in 2012. From there, performances dropped away sharply. Marc Murphy, Brock McLean and Heath Scotland were the club's clear fantasy frontrunners last season. Under then-coach Brett Ratten, the Blues had the third-most stoppages of any team and laid the fourth-most tackles in the competition. It remains to be seen how Mick Malthouse's appointment will affect the team's game style. Traditionally his teams have been directed to hug the boundary more than any other team, also with a propensity for kicking the ball long. That element looks particularly favourable for fantasy coaches.

THE TOP SCORERS
Bryce Gibbs

2012 AFL Fantasy average score: 92
2013 AFL Fantasy Dream Team price: $473,300
2013 AFL Fantasy position: Mid/Def
Mr Fantasy says: Didn't have one of his better years in 2012, yet was still one of two players to score more than 2000 points for the year. What role will he play under new coach Mick Malthouse?

Heath Scotland
2012 average score:
96
2013 price: $493,400
2013 position: Mid/Def
Mr Fantasy says: The former Magpie continues to repay the Blues after they gave him a second chance. Great runner of half-back who averaged almost 100 last season.

Kade Simpson
2012 average score:
93
2013 price: $481,600
2013 position: Mid
Mr Fantasy says: Free-wheeling wingman who averaged almost 94 in 19 games last season. Often finds space and looks a good buy.

Mitch Robinson
2012 average score:
93
2013 price: $478,600
2013 position: Mid/Fwd
Mr Fantasy says: Was very good in 2012, especially early in the season, when he scored 100 or more in five of his first six games. Not cheap but a solid scorer.

Marc Murphy
2012 average score:
101
2013 price: $522,000
2013 position: Mid
Mr Fantasy says: Suffered a severe shoulder injury in round eight last year and missed two months of action, but returned with some big scores, including 163 against the Bombers in round 21.

Matthew Kreuzer
2012 average score:
78
2013 price: $403,700
2013 position: Ruck
Mr Fantasy says: Capable ruckman who averages 70-80 from year-to-year but is prone to some barren patches. Be wary.

Chris Judd
2012 average score:
90
2013 price: $465,800
2013 position: Midfielder
Mr Fantasy says: Started 2012 in fine fashion, but ended it with scores of 74, 88 and 37. Too good to be down for long, so expect him to average in the 90s this season.

Eddie Betts
2012 average score:
69
2013 price: $355,500
2013 position: Forward
Mr Fantasy says: Has become a more consistent player over time but still capable of some low-scoring games and there are better small forward options.

Brock McLean
2012 average score:
100
2013 price: $516,200
2013 position: Midfielder
Mr Fantasy says: Worked tirelessly to get into the team and once there, averaged more than 100, including a sizzling 156 in the last round against the Saints. Pricey.

Jeff Garlett
2012 average score:
64
2013 price: $331,400
2013 position: Fwd
Mr Fantasy says: Only managed to reach 100 points in one game last year. That’s not exactly a form line you’d want from a player in your forward half. Pass.
