Wagga Wagga

BUDDING Greater Western Sydney star Lachie Whitfield will sit out Saturday's NAB Challenge match against St Kilda at Robertson Oval in Wagga Wagga.

Whitfield, a standout in last week's loss to the Sydney Swans with three goals and 25 touches, has been named an emergency along with Zac Williams and Tom Downie.

Lachie Plowman and Jacob Townsend are the substitutes for the Giants in a match expected to start in windy, overcast conditions.

St Kilda veteran Adam Schneider will make his first appearance of the year from the subs bench, with youngster Sebastian Ross to also start off in the green vest.

Rookies Cameron Shenton, Darren Minchington and Eli Templeton are all emergencies for the Saints, with skipper Nick Riewoldt and fellow veteran Lenny Hayes to blow out the cobwebs in their first games of 2014.

St Kilda opened its pre-season campaign with an 11-point loss to the Western Bulldogs in Geelong, while GWS suffered a 35-point defeat to the Swans.
