COLLINGWOOD is not happy with its continuing injury struggles but says it will leave no stone unturned as it tries to improve the situation, coach Nathan Buckley says.

The Magpies have battled a long injury list for most of the year with Ben Reid not playing a game, Nick Maxwell missing the past month and Nathan Brown suffering a season-ending shoulder injury in late May.

Neither of Collingwood’s two top-10 picks from last year's NAB AFL Draft, Matt Scharenberg and Nathan Freeman, have played since the season started while Ben Sinclair has not played since round two because of a hamstring injury.

Alex Fasolo has also played just seven games as the foot injury that sidelined him in 2013 takes time to settle.

Buckley conceded the club wasn’t happy with the situation.

"We haven't been happy with our injury status. There has been some [injuries] out of our control and there has been some within our control but internally we … [are] looking for the right methods to have our players back on deck as quickly as possible and as robust as possible," Buckley said.

Freeman became the latest player in recent weeks to be injured at training when he tweaked his 'good' hamstring last Friday, delaying his scheduled return in the VFL.

Although the injury was on the minor end of the scale, he is still expected to miss two to three weeks.

Reid's return from a calf injury was delayed after he injured his quad at training three weeks ago. He came back in the VFL last weekend but suffered a corked calf, and has not played a game this season.

Marley Williams also missed the game against Carlton after unluckily rolling his ankle at training.

Buckley said the final training session before a game wasn't an issue but acknowledged injuries that happened outside matches were hard to take.

"We don't see any real correlation between it being the last session because it is just a training session. The fact that it has been the last hurdle before a game probably just shows to us the players weren't ready to take that step into the game anyway," Buckley said.

"Our medical department and our high performance department are working hard to make sure they are doing everything right. They're feeling it as much as the players are, as much as the supporters are.

"I can assure the fans of the club that we're leaving no stone unturned to make sure we get it right."

With luck, the Magpies hope the tide will turn.

They will welcome Maxwell and Luke Ball back for the crunch clash against Essendon at the MCG on Sunday.

Collingwood is hopeful Reid will be available for selection, most likely in the VFL, and Fasolo has begun running again.
