GOLD Coast captain Gary Ablett expects to sign a long-term deal to remain at the Suns within the next month.

There had been speculation the Suns superstar had already committed to the expansion club this week, but he revealed on Sunday that was not the case - yet.

"We're talking at the moment. There's been a few news stories that I've signed, but [that's not accurate]," Ablett said at the On the Boot Family Fun Day at Glenferrie Oval on Sunday.

The dual Brownlow medallist's lucrative five-year contract expires at the end of next season, but he said he was not far away from signing his contract extension.

It has been reported the new deal will take him through to the end of 2018, but Ablett was coy when asked about the exact term.

"I'll let you know in a few weeks," he said.

"Hopefully I can put pen to paper, but you'll know within the next month."

The 30-year-old's impending deal all but rules out the possibility of him returning to Geelong before his career is through.

Ablett was joined by former Cats teammates including Jimmy Bartel, Tom Hawkins and Andrew Mackie, as well as a number of star players from other clubs who were helping raise awareness and money for the 'My Room' Charity.

The charity helps children who are battling cancer.
