Carlton to play six home matches at the home of football next year
CARLTON will play one more home game a season at the MCG for the next five years after finalising new deals with its two home venues.
In recent years, the Blues have played six home games a season at Etihad Stadium and the remaining five at the MCG.
But Carlton president Mark LoGiudice announced at the John Nicholls Medal count on Wednesday night that the Blues' home-game split would now be six at the MCG and five at Etihad.
The Blues' new deals with the two Melbourne venues will run from next season to the end of 2019.
LoGiudice said Carlton had struck the new deals in response to member feedback.
"Our members have expressed a desire for another game at the traditional home of football and I'm delighted that we have been able to deliver on that, while maintaining a strong presence at Etihad Stadium," LoGiudice said.
"The new agreements with both stadiums will provide Carlton with a stronger financial return than under the previous deals.
"Most importantly, at the forefront of this negotiation has been our members' needs and the opportunity to deliver an improved match-day experience for Carlton fans.
"The MCG resonates with our tribe as the traditional home of Australian Rules Football and to move another game there is a fantastic result, but equally we are enthused by upgrades recently announced for Etihad Stadium."
