SAM BLEASE will have to wait at least another week to make his Geelong debut after being named as an emergency for Sunday's NAB Challenge match against Gold Coast in Townsville.

Blease, who joined the Cats in the off-season after being delisted by Melbourne, is joined by Jordan Cunico and Jarrad Jansen as emergencies.

Gold Coast left small defender Sean Lemmens, Andrew Boston and Jarred Ellis out of its original 29-man squad.

With the match to be played in humid conditions and expected to reach 33 degrees, the AFL has partially introduced its heat policy.

Each team has eight interchange players and no substitutions, while extra time will be afforded between quarters.

The match will keep its usual duration though.

North Melbourne has opted to delay the debut of its first pick from last year's draft Sam Durdin, cutting him from its team that faces Adelaide in Port Lincoln.

The Kangaroos picked Durdin with pick No.16 at the draft, making him the first South Australian selected.

The 18-year-old tall was included in the squad of 29 along with fellow draftee Will Fordham and rookie Robin Nahas, but the three won't play at Centenary Oval.

Adelaide cut its two Hawthorn recruits Kyle Cheney and Luke Lowden as well as star defender Brodie Smith.

Livewire Charlie Cameron and draftee Harrison Wigg will start the game as subs for the Crows, while veteran Brent Harvey and Brad McKenzie will wear the green vests for the Kangaroos.

Both clubs have been granted permission by the AFL to reset their subs at half time.
