GOLD Coast midfielder Harley Bennell has given every indication that an announcement regarding his teammate Gary Ablett's new contract is imminent.

The 22-year-old livewire posted a photo of himself and Ablett on Instagram on Monday using the hashtag 'done deal'.

It follows reports by AFL.com.au columnist Damian Barrett the Suns captain had agreed to terms on a multi-million dollar, three-year contract with the Suns last Friday.

It’s understood the new contract will be announced by the club on Tuesday.

The new deal will tie Ablett to the Suns until the end of the 2018 season, Barrett said on Channel Nine last Sunday.

Ablett will turn 34 during the 2018 season, ruling out any romantic return to his former team, Geelong.

He signed a five-year deal with Gold Coast in September 2010 following 192 games and two premierships with Geelong.

The dual Brownlow medallist has been ruled out of the Suns' side indefinitely to nurse his troublesome shoulder following surgery last July.

On Saturday, Ablett's manager Liam Pickering confirmed his client was "close to a deal".

"It's imminent, the deal is imminent," Pickering told radio station SEN.

"It'll be all sorted."

Ablett signed a five-year contract with Gold Coast in September 2010 following 192 games and two premierships with Geelong.

The club decided to rest the captain indefinitely last week to nurse his troublesome shoulder following surgery last July.

The 30-year-old had struggled to make an impact in his side's opening two games of 2015, finishing with 19 touches against Melbourne and 23 touches against St Kilda.
