The AFL wishes to advise the Match Review Panel has reviewed the first eight matches played in round 10 of the 2015 Toyota AFL Premiership Season. The following charges were laid:

 

Charges Laid:

Shane Edwards, Richmond, has been charged with being the instigator of melee during the first quarter of the Round 10 match between Richmond and Fremantle, played at Domain Stadium on Friday June 5, 2015. 

In summary, he can accept a $1500 sanction with an early plea. 

A first offence for being the instigator of a melee is a $2500 sanction. The player has no applicable bad record. An early plea can reduce the penalty to a $1500  sanction.

 

Michael Walters, Fremantle, has been charged with a second offence of being involved in a melee during the first quarter of the Round 10 match between Fremantle and Richmond, played at Domain Stadium on Friday June 5, 2015. 

In summary, he can accept a $1500 sanction with an early plea. 

A second offence for being involved in a melee is a $2500 sanction. The player has no applicable bad record. An early plea can reduce the penalty to a $1500  sanction.

 

Danyle Pearce, Fremantle, has been charged with a second offence of being involved in a melee during the first quarter of the Round 10 match between Fremantle and Richmond, played at Domain Stadium on Friday June 5, 2015.

Jack Riewoldt, Richmond, has been charged with a first offence of being involved in a melee during the first quarter of the Round 10 match between Richmond and Fremantle, played at Domain Stadium on Friday June 5, 2015.

Joel Selwood, Geelong Cats, has been charged with a first offence for careless contact with an umpire (Shaun Ryan) during the third quarter of the Round 10 match between the Geelong Cats and Essendon, played at Etihad Stadium on Saturday June 6, 2015. 

In summary, he can accept a $1000 sanction with an early plea. 

A first offence for careless umpire contact is a $1500 sanction. The player has no applicable bad record. An early plea can reduce the penalty to a $1000  sanction.

 

Scott Thompson, North Melbourne, has been charged with charged with tripping Mark LeCras, West Coast, during the second quarter of the Round 10 match between North Melbourne and West Coast, played at Blundstone Arena on Sunday June 7, 2015. 

In summary, he can accept a $1000 sanction with an early plea. 

Based on the video evidence available and a medical report from the West Coast Football Club, it was the view of the panel the incident should be classified as intentional conduct with low impact to the body. The offence was classified as a $1500 sanction. The player has no applicable bad record. An early plea can reduce the penalty to a one-match sanction. 

 

Other Matters Assessed:

The match day report laid against the Adelaide Crows’ Taylor Walker for striking Carlton’s Cameron Wood from the first quarter of Saturday’s match was assessed. It was the view of the panel the force used was below that required for a reportable offence. No further action was taken. 

Contact between Essendon’s Ben Howlett and the Geelong Cats’ Steve Johnson from the first quarter of Saturday’s match was assessed. The panel said Howlett stepped into the path of Johnson to block his movement down the ground. Johnson went to ground briefly. It was the view of the panel the force used was below that required to constitute a reportable offence.
