The AFL wishes to advise the Match Review Panel has reviewed the matches played in round 15 of the 2015 Toyota AFL Premiership Season. The following charges were laid: 

Charges Laid:

Taylor Adams, Collingwood, has been charged with charged with kneeing Justin Westhoff, Port Adelaide, during the third quarter of the Round 15 match between Collingwood and Port Adelaide, played at Adelaide Oval on Thursday July 9, 2015. 

In summary, due to an existing poor record, his two-match suspension would remain at a two-match penalty if he accepted an early plea. 

Based on the video evidence available and a medical report from the Port Adelaide Football Club, it was the view of the panel the incident should be classified as intentional conduct with low impact to the head. This offence was classified as a two-match sanction. The player has an applicable bad record which increases the penalty to a three-match sanction. An early plea can reduce the penalty to a two-match sanction. 

Ty Vickery, Richmond, has been charged with charged with engaging in rough conduct against Michael Jamison, Carlton, during the first quarter of the Round 15 match between Richmond and Carlton, played at the MCG on Friday July 10, 2015. 

In summary, due to an existing poor record, his two-match suspension would remain at a two-match penalty if he accepted an early plea. 

Based on the video evidence available and a medical report from the Carlton Football Club, it was the view of the panel the incident should be classified as careless conduct with medium impact to the head. This offence was classified as a two-match sanction. The player has an applicable bad record which increases the penalty to a three-match sanction. An early plea can reduce the penalty to a two-match sanction. 

Joel Selwood, Geelong Cats, has been charged with charged with engaging in rough conduct against Sam Wright, North Melbourne, during the second quarter of the Round 15 match between the Geelong Cats and North Melbourne, played at Etihad Stadium on Saturday July 11, 2015. 

In summary, he can accept a one-match sanction with an early plea. 

Based on the video evidence available and a medical report from the North Melbourne Football Club, it was the view of the panel the incident should be classified as intentional conduct with medium impact to the body. The offence was classified as a two-match sanction. The player has no applicable bad record. An early plea can reduce the penalty to a one-match sanction. 

Drew Petrie, North Melbourne, has been charged with charged with striking Andrew Mackie, Geelong Cats, during the third quarter of the Round 15 match between North Melbourne and the Geelong Cats, played at Etihad Stadium on Saturday July 11, 2015. 

In summary, he can accept a one-match sanction with an early plea. 

Based on the video evidence available and a medical report from the Geelong Cats Football Club, it was the view of the panel the incident should be classified as intentional conduct with low impact to the head. The offence was classified as a two-match sanction. The player has no applicable bad record. An early plea can reduce the penalty to a one-match sanction. 

Billy Longer, St Kilda, has been charged with charged with striking Lachie Whitfield, GWS Giants, during the first quarter of the Round 15 match between St Kilda and the GWS Giants, played at Spotless Stadium on Sunday July 12, 2015. 

In summary, as the second offence of this kind this season, he can accept a $1500 sanction with an early plea.

Based on the video evidence available and a medical report from the GWS Giants Club, it was the view of the panel the incident should be classified as careless conduct with low impact to the head. As a second offence of this kind this season, the offence was classified as a $2500 sanction. An early plea can reduce the penalty to a $1500 sanction. 

Nathan Fyfe, Fremantle, has been charged with engaging in rough conduct against Taylor Duryea, Hawthorn, during the first quarter of the Round 15 match between Fremantle and Hawthorn, played at Aurora Stadium on Sunday July 12, 2015. 

In summary, as the second offence of this kind this season, he can accept a $1500 sanction with an early plea. 

Based on the video evidence available and a medical report from the Hawthorn Football Club, it was the view of the panel the incident should be classified as careless conduct with low impact to the head. As a second offence of this kind this season, the offence was classified as a $2500 sanction. An early plea can reduce the penalty to a $1500 sanction. 

Sam Mitchell, Hawthorn, has been charged with kneeing Nat Fyfe, Fremantle, during the second quarter of the Round 15 match between Hawthorn and Fremantle, played at Aurora Stadium on Sunday July 12, 2015. 

In summary, he can accept a $1000 sanction with an early plea. 

Based on the video evidence available and a medical report from the Fremantle Football Club, it was the view of the panel the incident should be classified as intentional conduct with low impact to the body. The offence was classified as a $1500 sanction. The player has no applicable record. An early plea can reduce the penalty to a $1000 sanction. 

Jeremy Laidler, Sydney Swans, has been charged with striking Allen Christensen, Brisbane Lions, during the second quarter of the Round 15 match between the Sydney Swans and the Brisbane Lions, played at the Gabba on Sunday July 12, 2015. 

In summary, he can accept a $1000 sanction with an early plea. 

Based on the video evidence available and a medical report from the Brisbane Lions Football Club, it was the view of the panel the incident should be classified as intentional conduct with low impact to the body. The offence was classified as a $1500 sanction. The player has no applicable record. An early plea can reduce the penalty to a $1000 sanction.  

Other Matters Assessed:

Contact between Melbourne’s Jeremy Howe and Essendon’s Alex Browne from the first quarter of Saturday’s match was assessed. Browne has the ball and is tackled by Howe. Howe does not pin the arms of the Essendon player but drops to the ground and turns the Essendon player in a bid to bring him to ground. Browne frees up his arms and seeks to hand ball to a teammate to avoid being dispossessed. It was the view of the panel the tackle by the Melbourne player was not unreasonable in the circumstances. 

Contact between Fremantle’s Nat Fyfe and Hawthorn’s Liam Shiels from the first quarter of Sunday’s game was assessed. It was the view of the panel the contact was below the force required for a report. The umpire paid a free kick at the time for the contact and it was the view of the panel the incident was dealt with on-field at the time.
