OLLIE Wines will likely miss the rest of the season, with medical advice to suggest the Port star needs reconstructive surgery on his injured shoulders.

But the news is better for Fremantle star midfielder Nat Fyfe who should play this week after shaking off a quad complaint that saw him sidelined for Sunday's 21-point win over Greater Western Sydney, according to Larkins.

Wines sustained a full dislocation of his left shoulder in the first quarter of the Power's 63-point win over St Kilda. He returned to the ground with his shoulder strapped, but was eventually substituted out of the game at quarter time.

"Port has to make a decision whether they go down the James Frawley path. The Hawks defender had five or six weeks off and he came back and played (against Richmond) having not gone through surgery," Larkins told AFL.com.au.

"Wines really hasn't got five or six weeks up his sleeve. My summary is that a normal approach with the club would be to get the shoulder reconstruction done and that way the player can get back on track for the pre-season."

Ollie Wines dislocated his shoulder earlier in the term but is persisting with his attempts to return to the field.

Larkins said Fyfe should be ready to go for Sunday's clash with St Kilda at Etihad Stadium.

"The expectation was that if he had a week off he should have improved enough that he'd be able to train and he's a good prospect to return this week," Larkins said.

"But the decision will be made later on in the week."

Brisbane Lions midfielder Dayne Beams will have season-ending shoulder surgery next Monday after failing to get through Saturday's game against Geelong at Simonds Stadium.

But the news is better for ruckman Matthew Leuenberger who is only expected to miss two to three weeks after escaping damage to his meniscus.

"The scans have revealed that it fortunately won't require any surgery for any further meniscal damage," Larkins said.

"The ligament strain of the superior tibiofibular joint, while not being a very common injury, is certainly better news.

"Two to three weeks is at the lower end of recovery and hopefully he'll be able to play by the end of the year with physiotherapy and some time off."

Larkins also said:

-       Gold Coast defender Rory Thompson, who was subbed out of Saturday night's game against West Coast, would have scans in the coming days to determine the damage to the lateral ligaments in his left ankle.

-       Collingwood's Tyson Goldsack (quad) and Travis Cloke (calf) are no certainty to play in their side's match against Carlton on Saturday.

-       Fremantle forward Chris Mayne (ankle) would be monitored during the week but is expected to play against St Kilda this Sunday.

-       Giants defender Matt Buntine is in serious doubt for Sunday's clash against Essendon, after sustaining another concussion in the weekend's game against the Dockers.
