WEST Coast utility Sharrod Wellingham could miss two weeks with his ankle issue, according to Eagles coach Adam Simpson.

Wellingham tweaked his ankle in the opening term of the Eagles' win over the Western Bulldogs last week, but was able to play out the match.

The ex-Pie was not named in the Eagles' squad of 25 to face Adelaide on Sunday and Simpson revealed he could miss next Saturday's clash against St Kilda as well.

"We'll see how he pulls up," Simpson said.

"He pulled up really well today. I just saw him in the hallway and he's walking around. Maybe next week, but we'll see how we go."

Simpson said the injury was not related to the previous ankle issues he endured when he first arrived at West Coast in 2013.

Jeremy McGovern returns and young key defender Tom Barrass has also been named. Jackson Nelson has flown as the only travelling emergency.

McGovern first injured his left hamstring against Collingwood in round 16, but only spent two weeks on the sidelines before re-injuring the hamstring against Hawthorn in round 19.

He's missed the last two matches and Simpson acknowledged there was a risk in playing the young defender this week, but he appears ready to go.

"(There are) no guarantees," Simpson said.

"We took an extra week. We took an extra week last time. But we have to get him out there. We'll manage him as best we can. But once you're playing, you're playing. He won't be the sub. He will be in the deep end."

Simpson said McGovern still had some work to do on his physical conditioning despite the giant strides he has made as a player this season.

"I think that's part of his development in the long-term," Simpson said.

"Planning how he manages his body and gets into elite condition."

"I think he'd be the first to admit there's some work to do there. He's improved so much since I arrived at the club and since he's put his foot down and got on the senior list and proved himself on field.

"That's something he's going to work on. But we're really happy with how he's developing."

Experienced defenders Will Schofield and Sam Butler remain unavailable due to hamstring problems, forcing the Eagles to test their depth ahead of the finals.

Scott Selwood will play in the WAFL this week after missing the last two weeks with ankle soreness and Chris Masten has another week to serve on his two-match suspension for biting.

The Eagles only need to win one of their last two matches to guarantee a top-two finish and Simpson hopes the injury toll does not catch up with them.

"We have found a way for most of the year to cover our injuries," Simpson said.

"But there is a tipping point. Hopefully it is not this week, but I think we have played (35) players this year. We're finding a way and we're managing to get by but there is a certain level when it tips over the edge, but hopefully it's not this week."
