HAWTHORN has delisted injury-plagued midfielder Alex Woodward but says it is hopeful of re-drafting the 22-year-old as a rookie if he is not picked up by a rival club first.
Woodward, who suffered a third ACL rupture in July, was one of three delistings announced by the club on Thursday, with rookies Sam Grimley and Jared Hardisty also cut.
International rookie Kurt Heatherley, who has enjoyed two seasons of progress as a key defender, has been elevated to the club's senior list.
"Hawthorn is committed to assisting Alex Woodward as he continues his rehabilitation program after rupturing his ACL in July," Hawks list manager Graham Wright said.
"We’re hopeful of re-selecting Alex in the rookie draft if he is not selected by another team prior to that."
After the retirements of premiership heroes Brian Lake and David Hale, the Hawks have two senior list vacancies.
