The Western Bulldogs, as one of the 18 clubs of the Australian Football League (AFL) and situated in the fastest growing region of Australia, is breaking new ground in delivering sustainable, high level performances, both on and off the field. We are now seeking a degree qualified Assistant Accountant with up to 2 year’s experience to join our dynamic Finance & Administration Team.

The objective of this position is to ensure the provision of high quality accounting and financial support to the Chief Financial Officer, Financial Controller and Internal customers. In this role you will be expected to assist in the preparation of accurate and timely month end financial reports for presentation to the Leadership Team. You will also be required to contribute to all accounting functions and ensure that all financial transactions are recorded accurately. 

Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will be responsible for:

  • Assisting with preparation of monthly financial accounts, including Balance Sheet reconciliations for Western Bulldogs operations with responsibility for all Social Venues P&Ls and Balance Sheet
  • Reconciliation of bank accounts, membership reports and sponsorship contracts.
  • Assisting with processing monthly General Ledger Journals (both standard & reversing)
  • Assisting with review monthly financial results (P&L and Balance Sheet) with Financial Controller
  • Assisting with preparation of Financial Year-End Accounts to comply with statutory and Audit requirements
  • Provide support to the Finance function, which includes AR, AP and Payroll processing, including but not limited to covering roles during periods of leave
  • Assisting with preparation and lodgement of monthly BAS Returns
  • Direct support to Financial Controller

The successful candidate will possess the following skills, experience and attributes:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification
  • 1-2 year’s experience at a similar level in a fast paced environment
  • Understanding of tax laws including, PAYGW, Payroll Tax, FBT, and GST legislation
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Experience in a sporting organisation is an advantage but not essential

This role is required to have flexible working hours, including weekend work, based on a requirement roster. In particular you are expected to attend Western Bulldogs home/away games and events as required by the Western Bulldogs.
