An exciting opportunity has arisen for an outstanding enthusiastic and experienced Financial Accountant to join our finance team to play an integral role in both the internal and external reporting requirements of the Club. We are one of the 18 clubs of the Australian Football League (AFL) and situated in the fastest growing region of Australia.

We are seeking an experienced Accountant with 4+ years to join our dynamic team based at the iconic Whitten Oval. Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will be able to demonstrate strong technical accounting knowledge.  You will have a sound understanding of internal control procedures and previous exposure to statutory reporting and taxation matters. Your team focus and excellent communication skills will ensure smooth collaboration across the finance department and the broader Club.

With a strong attention to detail and high problem solving ability this position will assist in the day to day financial operations of the Club.

More specifically within this role responsibilities will include:

  • Assist with managing the financial accounting function, including oversight of the month end process
  • Preparing monthly financial accounts and board reports, including Balance Sheet reconciliations
  • Liaising with auditors and assisting with managing the year end audit process
  • Preparing external financial reports and analysis including AFL reporting and audit requirements
  • Compliance with statutory obligations, including preparation and lodgement of FBT returns and Business Activity statements
  • Preparing and lodging of monthly Player payroll
  • Compliance with the AFL’s Total Player Payments (“TPP”) reporting requirements
  • Assisting with TPP and payroll forecasting and reporting
  • Liaising with and educating department managers regarding forecasting and budgeting
  • Overseeing the Assistant & Graduate Accountants

Preferably CPA qualified, the successful applicant will have proven relevant experience in financial reporting within either a medium/large corporate or public accounting environment. It is important  that you have strong IT skills and demonstrated experience using medium sized accounting packages (Microsoft Great Plains preferred).  High standard analytical skills and solid knowledge of GST and FBT legislative requirements are required.
