GREATER Western Sydney coach Leon Cameron has lauded the success of the AFL's academy system after a landmark night at the 2015 NAB AFL Draft in Adelaide.

GWS used four selections on Tuesday and all four were spent on players from their academy system, with Jacob Hopper (pick No.7), Matthew Kennedy (No.13), Harrison Himmelberg (No.16) and Matthew Flynn (No.41) all becoming Giants.

The Giants had no hesitation in matching bids by rival clubs for Hopper (Gold Coast) and Kennedy (Richmond), with the pair regarded as standout midfielders in this year's draft.

How the bidding process worked on draft night

Cameron was coy when asked if the two were candidates to play senior footy in the opening game of 2016, but said the night was a glowing endorsement for the League's investment in the northern states.

"It's a sign that the academies are working, it's just a great result," Cameron said.

"There's some unique players who can start round one after getting drafted the previous year, and time is going to tell.

"Jacob (Hopper) and Matthew (Kennedy) no doubt have the build and are really hard at it, but it's a really hard one.

"It's a really tough slog, that first pre-season."

Selection No. 7 - Jacob Hopper (Matching Gold Coast's bid)
"He's an inside midfielder, really tough, hard and a good stoppage player. He can go forward and kick goals, is a good size and a real competitive animal." – Giants coach Leon Cameron

Selection No. 13 - Matthew Kennedy (Matching Richmond's bid)
"Can play inside midfield, can play outside, can go forward, kick a goal and take a really good mark." – Leon Cameron

Selection No. 16 - Harrison Himmelberg (Matching Adelaide's bid)
"A young key forward who has shot up this year and has a unique ability to hit the scoreboard. There's a little bit of brilliance there, we're rapt to secure his services." – Leon Cameron

Selection No. 41 – Matthew Flynn (Matching Melbourne's bid)
"With most young, tall ruckmen, key forwards or backs, you're trying to find that competitiveness. One thing we really like about Matty is that he's really competitive, we're hoping in line with a Shane Mumford type." – Leon Cameron
