NORTH Melbourne is expected to finalise a two-year contract extension for coach Brad Scott by the end of the club's high-altitude training camp in Utah.

Scott is already contracted for next season, but North has moved to extend his tenure at Arden Street until the end of 2018 after the 39-year-old led the club to its second consecutive preliminary final appearance this year.

It is believed Scott's proposed new deal was on the agenda when North's board met last week, with board members informed that only a few minor contractual points had to be addressed.

AFL.com.au understands those issues should be resolved soon, with the finalised new deal likely to be announced before North's US training camp concludes at the end of next week.

Scott left for Utah after attending Tuesday night's NAB AFL Draft in Adelaide, while North CEO Carl Dilena will also be on the camp.

Scott took over the Roos' coaching reins ahead of the 2010 season and has since coached his team to 76 wins from 139 games at a success rate of almost 55 per cent.

The two-time Brisbane Lions premiership player initially oversaw a patient youth-based rebuild of North's list, but has now led the Roos into three of the past four finals series.

North has won two finals in each of the past two seasons and, after a humbling 2014 preliminary final defeat at the hands of the Sydney Swans, gave West Coast a scare in this year's preliminary final, leading for the entire first half before going down by 25 points.

Despite the Roos' recent on-field success, some commentators believe their premiership window will close soon given star veterans Brent Harvey, Drew Petrie, Daniel Wells, Nick Dal Santo and Jarrad Waite are all approaching retirement in the next few seasons.

North's move to lock Scott away for the next three seasons is a show of faith that he is the man to lead the club forward in the post-Harvey-Petrie era.
