A SUPPORTER who was jailed for punching a female fan during a game at Domain Stadium last season will be banned from attending games indefinitely.

The AFL intends to ban Perth resident Cody Yarran after the 24-year-old was jailed for eight months for assaulting a woman during the preliminary final between Fremantle and Hawthorn at Domain Stadium on September 25.

AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan strongly condemned crowd violence following the incident in September.

League spokesman Patrick Keane confirmed on Wednesday that the fan would not be able to attend AFL matches at any venues around the country for an indefinite period.

"Our intention was to ban him from our grounds and we have been waiting for the legal process to run its course," Keane said.

"We haven't had a discussion about the length of time.

"Gill said in September he wanted police to charge him and that has been followed through.

"We don't want him at our games for a period of time."

The AFL will make a final decision on the length of the ban once the legal process has been completed.
