THE AFL will continue seeking clarity about exactly what roles the banned 34 past and present Essendon players can have in football this season following confusion about Brent Prismall's welfare position at the Western Bulldogs.

Prismall was ordered to stand down from his job after it was revealed he was still working at the Bulldogs despite his season-long suspension for taking part in Essendon's supplements regime in 2012.

The Bulldogs had received AFL permission for Prismall to continue in the role, but that was revoked after the Australian Sport Anti-Doping Authority stepped in last week.

"What I would say is there's been a lot of back and forth with ASADA on this trying to get clarity on things and the definitive clarity on Brent Prismall came through last week," the League's football operations boss Mark Evans told 3AW.

"In part, we'd been basing some things on things that happened in the past where we'd sought clarity in previous years and had applied that.

"But the clarity came through last week so it's become much more clear as to what Brent can or can't do.

"But there's still a lot of back and forth with ASADA about exactly what can occur with these players, so we'll keep working through that."

Some banned players have already branched out into other occupations, with St Kilda recruit Jake Carlisle working in construction and Dyson Heppell set for a media gig.
