PREMIERSHIP stars Jordan Lewis and Grant Birchall have been left out of Hawthorn's final team for Saturday night's clash with North Melbourne at Etihad Stadium.

Lewis' withdrawal from Hawthorn's final squad of 24 comes after he had scans on his calf this week when he experienced tightness at training.

Hawthorn football boss Chris Fagan said at the time that the club would take no risks with Lewis, who played in the first two rounds of the NAB Challenge, confident that if he did not play against North he would still be fit for round one.

Birchall also played the Hawks' first two pre-season games, while the club's other omission ahead of Saturday night's game was Brendan Whitecross.

North cut Ryan Clarke, Aaron Mullett and Mason Wood from its final squad, but was boosted by the news coach Brad Scott would take his spot in the Roos coach's box after overcoming a bout of gastro.

Scott missed a scheduled press conference on Friday because of his illness, but is understood to have recovered in time for Saturday night's game.

FREMANTLE skipper David Mundy and star recruit Harley Bennell have been named to play their first games of the NAB Challenge in the Dockers' final match of the pre-season against Geelong at Domain Stadium.

The Dockers have left out youngsters Ed Langdon and Brady Grey along with key defender Alex Silvagni.

Fremantle has only named 24 players despite the AFL's heat policy allowing them to have 26 for a game that will be played in 32-plus degree heat.

Geelong has omitted Jed Bews, George Horlin-Smith and Michael Luxford. Harry Taylor will captain the Cats in their final NAB Challenge clash.

COLLINGWOOD recruit Adam Treloar will play in the senior team for the first time against the Western Bulldogs at Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The former GWS player made his debut in the black and white for the Magpies' VFL team last Sunday, playing three-quarters of the game against Werribee.

Levi Greenwood, Alan Toovey and Adam Oxley are all out for the Pies.

Will Minson is missing for the Western Bulldogs. He strained a hamstring last Thursday and is in doubt for round one against Fremantle at Etihad Stadium on Sunday, March 27.

The Dogs' ruck trio of Minson, Tom Campbell and Jordan Roughead had a combined 26 hit-outs in last week's game against Melbourne. Demon Max Gawn alone had 46 hit-outs.
