Kristian Jaksch also showed promise in the forward line with two goals, and he helped set up several others.
Rookie Ciaran Byrne had 28 disposals, while Matthew Dick had 22.
Liam Sumner played in his first game of football since Greater Western Sydney traded him to Carlton in 2015.

State league affiliate: Collingwood (VFL)
This weekend: Practice match, Collingwood v Coburg - Saturday March 26, 3pm, Holden Centre

Ben Reid dominated in defence and put himself in line for a spot in the senior side. Jonathon Marsh was similarly impressive down back.

Jeremy Howe was the better of the recruits, and took several contested marks up forward. James Aish kicked three goals while playing mostly on a wing.

The Pies' draftees played well – Tom Phillips and Ben Crocker each kicked two goals. Rupert Mills came on in the second half and won plenty of the ball.

Jesse White played in the backline and delivered a typically enigmatic performance. Alan Toovey improved as the game went on while Tyson Goldsack needs more time in the VFL after suffering from knee tendinitis in the pre-season.

• After the siren: Crunch time after one round?

Conor McKenna, Will Hams and Jake Long all played well in Essendon's 53-point loss to Footscray.

Gold Coast

State league affiliate: Gold Coast (NEAFL)
This weekend: Practice match, Gold Coast v Brisbane Lions - Saturday March 26, 12pm, Metricon Stadium

Key forward Peter Wright made his case for promotion with an excellent first half in Gold Coast's 92-point win against the Brisbane Lions' reserves.

Wright took several contested marks before trailing off in the second half.
Brandon Matera was among the best players, Jarrod Garlett was exciting and Dan Currie played well in the ruck.

Mackenzie Willis impressed as an inside midfielder. The 20-year-old was drafted at No. 52 last year.

State league affiliate: Giants (NEAFL)
This weekend: Practice match, Giants v Sydney Swans - Saturday March 26, 9.30am, Blacktown International Sportspark

Key forward Jonathon Patton responded in the best possible way to being left out of the Giants' round one side by booting five goals in the GWS' reserves' final practice match.

Coach Leon Cameron said before his side's clash with Melbourne that Patton needed to build his confidence again after two knee reconstructions and the 2011 No.1 pick took a big step forward against the Swans' reserves.

Midfielder Stephen Coniglio also produced a strong effort, putting his hand up for a senior recall after a slight hamstring setback.

Nick Haynes impressed in his return from groin issues, while academy product Jacob Hopper was also among the Giants' best.

State league affiliate: Box Hill Hawks (VFL)
This weekend: Practice match, Sandringham v Box Hill - Sunday March 27, 1pm, Trevor Barker Oval

Few Box Hill players performed well in their 147-point loss to Sandringham.

Blake Hardwick was one who impressed. Kaiden Brand won a lot of the ball but he spent time defending Paddy McCartin, who kicked seven goals.

Daniel Howe did not play for the Hawks. He is an emergency for Hawthorn's Easter Monday game against Geelong.

State league affiliate: Casey Scorpions (VFL)
This weekend: Intra-club practice match

Demons youngster Christian Petracca put on a show in the Scorpions' intra-club match at Gosch's Paddock on Friday.

The No.2 pick from the 2014 NAB AFL Draft was the dominant player during the hour-long scratch match, winning a ton of possessions on the wing and through the middle.

His power in the air and ability to break the game open with quick play-ons were on full display, suggesting it won't be long until he's strutting his stuff for the Demons on the MCG.

Angus Brayshaw displayed his class and toughness in the clinches and looks a big chance of reclaiming his spot in the Demons' 22 against Essendon next Saturday after overcoming a knee complaint.

Heritier Lumumba, who had surgery on both of his ankles in the off-season, also threw his name up for selection by winning a stack of the ball in defence.

Luckless forward Jack Trengove got through the game unscathed and appears on track to resurrect his stalled career.

North Melbourne

State league affiliate: Werribee (VFL)
This weekend: No match scheduled

Port Adelaide

State league affiliate: Port Adelaide (SANFL)
This weekend: Norwood v Port Adelaide - Thursday March 24, 7.40pm, Coopers Stadium

Toumpas was traded from Melbourne at the end of last year, after being selected at No.4 in the 2012 NAB AFL Draft.
Aaron Young (26 disposals) and Cam O'Shea (21) were also prominent.
Big man Dougal Howard kicked three goals, including one from the boundary.

State league affiliate: Richmond (VFL)
This weekend: Practice match, Richmond v Northern Blues - Thursday March 24, 4pm, Punt Road Oval

Forward Ben Lennon kicked four goals in an excellent performance in Richmond's 56-point loss to the Northern Bullants in its VFL practice match on Thursday.
Lennon, 20, was dropped for the Tigers' elimination final loss to North Melbourne last year and was not selected for the season opener against Carlton.
Troy Chaplin played in the forward line and took some strong marks.

St Kilda

State league affiliate: Sandringham (VFL)

Jack Sinclair recorded 27 disposals and four goals. Tim Membrey also kicked four goals.

Sydney Swans

State league affiliate: Sydney Swans (NEAFL)
This weekend: Practice match, Giants v Sydney Swans - Saturday March 26, 9.30am, Blacktown International Sportspark

James Rose and Abe Davis both kicked three goals in the Swans' 55-point win against the Greater Western Sydney reserves last Saturday.

Rookie Harry Marsh played well in the midfield and forward line.

Ted Richards and Ben McGlynn both lined up and got through the game without incident.

West Coast

State league affiliate: East Perth (WAFL)
This weekend: Subiaco v East Perth - Friday March 25, 3.10pm, Medibank Stadium

Midfielder Mark Hutchings took another step towards full fitness in East Perth's 31-point loss to Subiaco on Good Friday.

After being left out of the Eagles' final round one squad, the 24-year-old onballer worked his way into the match for the Royals and finished with 23 disposals and eight tackles in an encouraging display after persistent calf issues.

Versatile tall Tom Lamb (one goal), playing on a wing, and rookie Kane Lucas (seven tackles) also gathered 23 touches apiece, while developing full-back Tom Barrass was among the best and had 18 possessions.

Luke Partington, the Eagles' first pick in last year's draft at No.28 overall, and Irish prospect Paddy Brophy both collected 19 disposals in the Royals' second defeat to open the season.

Western Bulldogs

State league affiliate: Footscray (VFL)
This weekend: Practice match, Footscray v Essendon - Saturday March 26, 12pm, Whitten Oval

Former Brisbane Lions captain Jed Adcock gathered 20 touches and booted two goals as Footscray belted Essendon by 53 points in the clubs' final VFL warm-up match.

The 30-year-old rookie was an imposing force in the Dogs' big win, with Declan Hamilton (21 touches), Zaine Cordy (20) and Lin Jong finding plenty of the ball.

Key forward Jack Redpath and Mitch Honeychurch also hit the scoreboard with two majors each.
