REPORTS and results from day two of the 2016 AFL youth girls' national championships played at Trevor Barker Oval in Melbourne.

Match 1

Tasmania v Northern Territory

The Northern Territory Thunder kicked off day two of the carnival with a thrilling four-point win over Tasmania. The victory was tempered by the loss of co-captain Tayla Thorn at the opening ruck contest.

Tassie came out firing in the first quarter with three goals, but the Thunder – in their first carnival outing after a day-one bye – dominated the second quarter. Only the windy conditions stopped the Thunder piling on the score.

Tasmania bounced back in the third quarter to lead by six points at the last change, and it might have been more had it not missed several chances.

The Thunder's last-quarter pressure and just one goal were enough to see them over the line.

Match 2

Western Australia v Vic Metro

Vic Metro sent a warning to the rest of the competition after claiming its second win in as many games, defeating Western Australia by 44 points.

In blustery conditions, Vic Metro made the most of the wind in the opening quarter, slotting four goals to none. Western Australia pegged back the lead in the second term through the efforts in particular of Kate Bartlett and Sabreena Duffy.

With the wind in its favour, Vic Metro dominated the third term. Ball-magnets Deanna Berry, Isabel Huntington and Emily Browning set up countless forward entries and Metro pushed its lead to 53 points.

Brilliant forward Brooke Struylaart caused headaches for her West Australian opponents all day, bagging six goals to take her carnival tally to 10. Emily McGuire and Sonia Dorizzi tried hard for Western Australia.

Match 3

Woomeras v South Australia

South Australia shrugged off a determined Woomeras team by 29 points to claim its second win of carnival.

After accounting for Tasmanian on day one, South Australia was forced to fight hard to see off the Woomeras.

For the winners, Tait Mackrill was dominant across the ground, using her powerful frame to break open packs and push her team forward, while Anne Hatchard was instrumental both in defence and through the middle. Capping of their fine work was Breanna Maslin, who booted three goals.

The Woomeras showed plenty of resolve after a heavy loss to NSW/ACT on Monday, kicking two goals into the wind in the third term to keep the contest alive. Felisha Swan continued to impress with her resolute defence, while Ruby Riley and Chiarah Rusca found plenty of the ball.

Match 4

Queensland v Vic Country

Vic Country held on to secure its first win of the championships, beating Queensland by nine points.

In wet and windy conditions, Vic Country started well by kicking three goals and holding the determined Queensland to just one.

Queensland steadied in the second term, with two goals from Raegan Mills, while the run and carry of Gabby Collingwood and Tarni White was vital.

In the third term, Vic Country's Isabella Ayre proved unstoppable in the forward line and was well supported by teammates Lily Mithen, Emily Rylance and vice-captain Rebecca Webster.
