Coach Heath Younie was pleased with Crouch's efforts.

"Brad won enough of the ball. He came back with a great attitude," Younie said.

"I thought he moved across the ground well.

"We expect Brad to play well every week, whether it's AFL or SANFL."

This weekend: Collingwood v Williamstown - Saturday May 21, 4.50pm, Holden Centre

Collingwood received the boost it had been hoping for, with maligned forward Travis Cloke playing a starring role in the VFL.

Cloke booted a game-high four goals for the Magpies and was named among the best afield in the side's thrilling five-point win over Williamstown.

The power forward's performance may see him join in-form pair Mason Cox and Darcy Moore, if coach Nathan Buckley opts for a three-pronged tall attack.

Tyson Goldsack and Marley Williams both made promising returns from injury, while Matthew Goodyear claimed best-on-ground honours.

Williams was returning from a foot sprain and sat out the first quarter after having his minutes restricted.

Goldsack played down back as well and was clean with the ball, despite not being able to handle footballs while recovering from a fractured thumb. His aerial prowess was also important.

James Aish impressed with his pressure, playing on a wing and also as an inside midfielder.

The luckless Josh Cowan played the best of his four VFL games this year, taking the game on more than he had previously.

Cowan was clean with the ball and spent time on a wing and half-back, as well as in the midfield.

Irish rookie Padraig Lucey impressed with three goals. He displayed improving form in the ruck and the ability to not only take marks in attack, but also crumb and finish, which he did for two of his three goals.

Key forward Nathan Vardy was Geelong's captain for the day and booted a goal, with the opportunity to kick more. The windy conditions did not suit him but he was a constant presence.
