COLLINGWOOD forward Jesse White is no certainty to line-up in Sunday's clash against the Western Bulldogs at the MCG after hurting his ankle at training on Friday morning.

If White is unable to play, Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley left the door open for out-of-form forward Travis Cloke to return after spending the past four games in the VFL.

"He would be (a chance to play)," Buckley said when asked whether Cloke could replace White in the senior team.

"There have been times where we've brought players in before they are ready and been seduced by history or talent and we've set them up for failure.

"When Clokey comes back in he'll come back in super ready and he'll make us better."

White left the track early to receive some medical attention, disappearing into the change rooms with club doctor Chris Bradshaw and failing to return to the track.

Magpies coach Nathan Buckley said the club was hopeful the marking forward would be fit to play.

"He just tweaked his ankle," Buckley said.

"It's not uncommon for Jesse to do that. We'll know more in 24 hours but we think he'll be right."

White pointed to his lower leg when consulting with Bradshaw and it was clear he was in some discomfort when the players huddled in the middle of the ground.

Buckley said he had no issue with Cloke's comments on radio during the week where he said he was "pissed off" when the forward found out he was being dropped for Anzac Day and that he had "had enough of playing VFL football".

Cloke also said he felt that people inside Collingwood had already written him off.

"Clokey can get a word or two out of place and I think he was misconstrued," Buckley said.

"And I know that because no coaches, in particular myself, have lost faith in him.

"Trav's fully committed to the challenge in front of him. He understands where his opportunities lie and he's working diligently towards getting his form back and putting a block of footy together that's going to make us better.

The Magpie players went through an intense match practice session, where the senior squad came up against a team consisting largely of the players due to play VFL, to tune up for Sunday.

Jonathon Marsh, Jarrod Witts and Ben Sinclair were all part of Collingwood's additional squad when it was named on Thursday night, but all three trained as part of the VFL squad.

Young defender Matt Scharenberg continued his rehab from a second knee reconstruction with change of direction agility training combined with a tough conditioning session.
