GREATER Western Sydney will enter this year's exchange and draft periods in an enviable position, with the club having three selections inside the top 16, including Geelong's first-round pick at its disposal.

After succumbing to the Western Bulldogs on Saturday and with the Cats losing to the Sydney Swans, the Giants hold picks No.15 and 16 in this year's NAB AFL Draft.

Geelong handed over its first-round pick to secure defender Lachie Henderson from Carlton in last year's NAB AFL Trade Period.

The Blues then on-traded that selection to GWS as part of the deal that saw a quartet of Giants – Lachie Plowman, Jed Lamb, Andrew Phillips and Liam Sumner – join Ikon Park.

It is shaping as a busy trade period for the Giants again this year, headlined by defender Caleb Marchbank requesting a switch to Carlton and key forward Cam McCarthy expected to finally end up at Fremantle.

GWS' first draft pick this year is currently No.7 – another future first-round selection it received from Collingwood as part of the Adam Treloar exchange.

The Giants also hold two second-round selections in the draft, having traded defender Curtly Hampton to Adelaide last year for its future pick (No.31).

The Cats had four low picks in 2015, recruiting defender Ryan Gardner (No.59), midfielder Sam Menegola (No.66), forward Wylie Buzza (No.69) and utility Matthew Hayball (No.70).

Geelong's first pick in this year's draft currently stands at No.34 after trading its future selection to acquire Henderson.
