JAMIE Elliott's chances of playing in round one appear dashed after he failed to train with Collingwood's main group on Friday.

Seven days out from the Magpies' season opener against the Western Bulldogs, skipper Scott Pendlebury arrived on the track about 30 minutes into the session.

The captain took part in match simulation as he tested out his sore Achilles.

Wearing his bright green boots, Pendlebury started on the ball and showed no obvious signs of discomfort.

Elliott, who missed all of last season with back issues, suffered an ankle injury at training a month ago.

AFL.com.au understands the 24-year-old completed a weights session inside the Holden Centre gym.

Elliott appeared outside wearing a casual T-shirt and sneakers towards the end of session, handballing with a young fan on the athletics track at the oval's edge.

Collingwood hasn't officially ruled him out, saying only that they'll assess his progress next week.

Ruckman Brodie Grundy also took part in the session and showed no signs of his recent calf niggle.

While there has been some uncertainty about Jordan De Goey's availability after he missed last week's JLT Community Series hit-out in Moe, the midfielder powered through Friday morning's full-ground session.

Youngster Brayden Sier, who acquired Dane Swan's famous No.36 in the off-season, came from the ground early after copping a knock to the head.

He returned to the ground, but continued to consult medical staff.

Recruit Daniel Wells lightly jogged laps as his teammates trained. The former Kangaroo has already been ruled out for the start of the season.

The Magpies host the reigning premiers at the MCG next Friday night.
