Young midfielder Harrison Wigg had a team-high 28 disposals in Adelaide's loss to the Eagles.

Troy Menzel was lively with 18 touches, six marks and two goals, while veteran Scott Thompson threw his weight around, laying 11 tackles and compiling 19 disposals.

Rookie Hugh Greenwood was also in the best with seven inside-50s in his 22 touches.

Midfielder Ryan Bastinac led the stats sheet and was named among the Lions' best in their 37-point loss, courtesy of his team-high 28-possession, two-goal game.

It was Bastinac's third NEAFL game for the season.

Experienced Lion Rohan Bewick attacked the ball for 24 disposals and eight marks, youngster Liam Dawson had 17 touches and utility Cedric Cox, the No.24 selection in last year's NAB AFL Draft, also performed well with his 14 disposals.

Big-bodied midfielder Tom Bell, meanwhile, was kept quiet with 11 touches, two tackles and a goal.

Second-year midfielder David Cuningham was pivotal in the Blues' 13-point win, gathering 24 disposals and kicking a long running goal after winning a centre clearance.

The 20-year-old made his AFL debut late last season, playing three consecutive games.

Draftee Harrison Macreadie, the No.47 selection in last year's NAB AFL Draft, was equally impressive in his first VFL game after being rested in round six.

Big man Daniel Gorringe kicked a goal in his return from an Achilles injury, while midfielder Blaine Boekhorst (23 touches) and former Giant Rhys Palmer (22, one goal) also generated opportunities.

Out-of-favour small forward Jarryd Blair was named the Magpies' best in the 13-point loss.

The 27-year-old was his team's only multiple goalkicker with two majors, and applied strong pressure in attack.

Defender Matt Scharenberg had a steadying influence across half-back, while draftee Sam McLarty, the No.30 selection last year, also showed a lot of promise in the backline.

Inaccuracy in front of goal cost the Magpies, who registered 6.10 (46) for the match.

Draftee Dylan Clarke was among Essendon's best in its loss to Port Melbourne, finishing with 28 disposals.

Coach Mark Corrigan said the 18-year-old was strong in difficult conditions.

"Clarke on the ball was clean and showed that even in these conditions he can still be clean and play like it’s dry," Corrigan told Essendon's website.

James Stewart kicked three goals, and the experienced Craig Bird was busy with 27 disposals.

Danyle Pearce had a comprehensive performance, amassing 35 disposals, six marks, six inside-50s and a goal.

Defender Nick Suban was also strong, finishing with 26 touches – 23 of which were kicks.

Ruckman Jonathon Griffin had 24 hitouts and laid seven tackles, while rookie Taylin Duman had 21 touches.

Hard nut Scott Selwood racked up 32 disposals and kicked a goal to push his case for the senior side as Geelong fell to Box Hill by 42 points at Simonds Stadium on Saturday.

The West Coast club champion in 2012 played his third straight game since coming back from a toe injury.

Meanwhile, defender Jake Kolodjashnij had 16 disposals and four marks. He played 20 games for Chris Scott's team last year but has spent his time in the VFL this year after returning from a groin injury.

A siren malfunction saw the game delayed, with operators unable to turn it off.

Wylie Buzza booted two goals to be one of his side's best as Box Hill ran away with a dominant last quarter to post a comprehensive win, 14.11 (95) to 8.5 (53).

Versatile Sun Matt Shaw racked up 38 disposals and nine marks for Gold Coast in its 51-point win against Greater Western Sydney at Metricon Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Draftees Will Brodie (22 disposals and a goal), Jack Scrimshaw (17 disposals) and Jack Bowes (16 disposals and a goal) all won their share of the ball.

Darcy Macpherson collected 29 disposals and a goal while former Hawk Mitch Hallahan won 24 disposals in his return from a hamstring injury.

Brayden Fiorini impressed with 30 disposals and two goals as the Suns won, 18.14 (122) to 10.11 (71).

Recruit Matt de Boer put on a clinic in the Giants' loss to the Suns, amassing 38 disposals.

Forward Jeremy Finlayson was dominant, kicking three goals while picking up 34 touches.

Rookie Daniel Lloyd was also busy with 32 disposals and two goals while draftee and former Academy defender Isaac Cumming had 26 touches.

Tyrone Vickery booted three goals for Box Hill in its 42-point win against Geelong at Simonds Stadium on Saturday.

Vickery, 26, was picked up as a restricted free agent from Richmond last October. He played the first three games of the AFL season but was left out with back tightness against Geelong on Easter Monday and returned through the VFL last week.

Fellow tall Jack Fitzpatrick added two goals of his own while former Crow Ricky Henderson kicked one.

A siren malfunction at the main break caused a delay in the match.

Box Hill finished strong with a seven-goal last quarter to put the Cats away, 14.11 (95) to 8.5 (53).

Axed midfielder Jake Melksham brought a good attitude in his return to the VFL, collecting a team-high 30 disposals and booting a goal in a 13-point loss.

On the back of his 26-disposal game last week, fellow ball-winner Ben Kennedy continued his solid patch of form over the past month by adding another 26 touches and a goal.

Midfielders Billy Stretch (25 disposals) and Jack Trengove (22 disposals) also didn't do their chances any harm.

Small forward Lindsay Thomas rediscovered his spark in attack by laying several strong tackles and kicking three goals in a 13-point win.

The 29-year-old, who kicked a game-high four goals last week against Essendon's VFL side, was demoted in round six along with fellow experienced Kangaroo Andrew Swallow.

Draftee key forward Nick Larkey (four goalss), hard-running midfielder Declan Mountford and ruckman Braydon Preuss rounded out North's best players.

There were positives all round for the Magpies in their comprehensive 60-point win.

Forward Brett Eddy was unstoppable in attack with another five goals – including four in the first quarter – taking his tally to 16 majors over the past month since being dropped in round four.

Forgotten man Jimmy Toumpas led the way across half-back with a game-high 31 possessions and 10 marks, receiving ample support from midfielder Brendon Ah Chee with 25 touches, nine clearances and two goals.

Omitted wingman Karl Amon responded positively with 23 touches and seven marks, while veteran Angus Monfries was rewarded with three goals from 17 disposals in his second straight SANFL appearance for the season.

Maligned forward Ben Lennon kicked three goals and had 23 disposals in Richmond's seven-point loss to the Western Bulldogs.

Connor Menadue was busy with 24 touches, while forgotten forward Sam Lloyd kicked two goals in his 20 disposals.

Draftee Shai Bolton was lively with 21 disposals, while rookie Tyson Stengle kicked three goals.

Promising key forward Paddy McCartin was reported after a late hit on North Ballarat's Tony Lockyer.

McCartin couldn't break into St Kilda's senior line-up despite kicking seven goals last week in the VFL, and kicked another two in St Kilda's 14-point win over North Ballarat.

Jack Lonie was dominant, picking up 37 touches, while Shane Savage staked his claim for a senior berth with 30.

Luke Dunstan was also in the best, finishing with 28 disposals, while rookie Rowan Marshall kicked three goals.

The injury-prone Nathan Freeman kicked the sealing goal.

Meanwhile, ruckman Tom Hickey suffered a knee injury in the second quarter and didn't return.

A St Kilda spokesperson told AFL.com.au on Sunday that the 26-year-old would be further assessed on Monday.

Hickey featured in St Kilda's opening four games of the season but was rested in round five, lining up at VFL level over the past fortnight.

He assumed the No.1 ruck mantle in his breakout season last year, but has faced increasing competition from fellow ruckman Billy Longer in recent times.

Backman Nic Newman put the disappointment of being dropped for the second time in three weeks behind him, finishing with a game-high 30 disposals, eight marks and a goal in the 37-point win.

Fellow omitted pair Brandon Jack and James Rose had 20 and 17 possessions respectively, with the former also adding a goal.

In attack, half-forward Jordan Dawson, Sam Murray and category B rookie Sam Fisher kicked two goals and accumulated 22 disposals each.

As expected, forward Kurt Tippett (hip) did not feature despite being named in the initial squad.

Key forward Jack Redpath made a stunning return from a torn ACL, kicking six goals and two behinds.

Midfielder Mitch Wallis, in his second game back from a badly broken leg, finished with 31 disposals and a goal.

Redpath and Wallis were both injured in last year's round 18 clash with St Kilda.

Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge said Redpath "moved well" and added Wallis would "be a candidate to come in" to fill the gap caused by injuries to Josh Dunkley (dislocated shoulder) and Jake Stringer (knee).

Sharpshooter Tory Dickson kicked three goals, while Shane Biggs (27 touches), Bailey Dale (25) and Lukas Webb (21) were also prominent.
