ADELAIDE will throw second-gamer Hugh Greenwood into a midfield duel with Fremantle stars Nat Fyfe and David Mundy in their clash at Adelaide Oval on Saturday night.

Former basketballer Greenwood, 25, made an impressive debut booting three goals in the Crows' 80-point win against the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba last Saturday night.

But with key forward Josh Jenkins returning to the team and midfielder Curtly Hampton sidelined with an ankle injury, Greenwood will put his 1.90m, 90kg frame to use in the centre of the ground after playing predominately in attack a week ago.

"He'll definitely play a bit more through (the midfield)," Crows midfield coach Scott Camporeale said on Friday.

"Going up against Mundy and Fyfe will be a good match-up for him to see how he can handle the level.

"His inside stuff has been the most impressive thing and the way he gets at the opposition."

Greenwood grew up playing football in Tasmania before focusing on basketball, representing Australia at under-19 level and playing at US college New Mexico.

He signed with the Perth Wildcats in the NBL, but returned to football as a category B rookie with the Crows at the start of last year.

Greenwood played mostly in the forward line last year in the SANFL before moving to the midfield this season.

"He's from a basketball background, so he actually gets and reads the game in tight really well," Camporeale said.

"We thought we were probably a little bit fumbly last week and he was one that was really clean at ground level."

The Crows have recalled the experienced David Mackay to help counter the pace of Dockers duo Bradley and Stephen Hill.

"D-Mac comes back in through a bit of team balance," Camporeale said.

"We thought we were one runner down last week in terms of his flexibility he brings.

"With the two Hill boys on the wing it's a different sort of make-up, so we'll always pick the team that we best think is going to win."

Running defender Brodie Smith has been cleared to play after passing a fitness test on his injured hamstring.

"He trained this morning, he's all ready to go, so no issues there," Camporeale said.

"We've got to make sure we go through the due process to make sure he's ready to play an AFL game, and he's done that, so we had no hesitation in playing him."
