'Little' hamstring tear for tough Cat Selwood

AFL 2017 Round 13 - West Coast v Geelong

Scott Selwood will miss at least a week

GEELONG midfielders Scott Selwood and Nakia Cockatoo have escaped with minor hamstring injuries, but both look set to miss at least a fortnight following the results of scans.

However, following surgery, defender Tom Ruggles will miss up to six weeks after spraining his AC joint in the club's VFL game against Richmond at Punt Road on Saturday.

As flagged by Selwood earlier on Monday, Cats football manager Steve Hocking said the club expects the midfielder to miss between one and three weeks.

"It's only a low-grade hamstring which is good," Hocking told the Geelong Advertiser.

Selwood said he would do everything in his power to return to the field as early as possible.

"I got a little tear in my hamstring," Selwood told K-Rock radio on Monday.

"I got pretty good scans results to say it's not too bad and hopefully I won't miss too much footy.

"I'm going to try and push to play as soon as possible."

Cockatoo's injury is more serious than Selwood's hamstring complaint and the Cats will be cautious with his recovery, considering it’s the second time he has injured his hamstring in the past month.

The Cats are hopeful he will miss between two and four weeks and no more than that.

"It's in a different part of the hamstring. We are not concerned about that (multiple injuries to the hamstring)," Hocking said.

The Cats will be bolstered by the return of spearhead Tom Hawkins, who served a one-match suspension for a jumper punch on Adelaide's Matt Crouch.

Fellow big man Mark Blicavs is also expected to be back after missing the Eagles game through soreness.

Irishman Mark O'Connor will also be assessed after hurting his ankle in the VFL on Saturday.

He has been placed in a moon boot and the club is unsure whether he will be fit to play on Sunday against North Ballarat.
